The way I see it, the Repubs have a very brief window of opportunity to distance themselves from the Bush administration and its policies.
Anyone who runs in 2004 and supports Bush, will find themselves in the private sector in 2005.

Further, the first question anyone is going to ask of a candidate in 2008, assuming there is a 2008 election, is why they did not work to impeach Bush. Democrats or Republicans...
