ESPN's response to my email
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 10:19 AM by Michigander4Dean
Rush is an excellent communicator and a big sports fan. He was hired for those two reasons, not his politics. His role will be to provide the fans perspective and to create discussion and debate.

<Big Sigh>

1. What a crock, he was hired because he is such a troublemaker and
agitator. The guy is just a big bag of wind, there is no intellect there to work with.

2. I suppose ....
The Waldorf Astoria COULD have hired Adolph Hitler as their head chef, ... I understand he made some GREAT omelets ....

3. Do they honestly think he'll keep his politics seperate?
His fans will tune in expecting to hear occasional digs at his usual targets. He'll be sure to satisfy that hunger.

Hey, I got an idea. I'm sure David Duke is a fan of some sport. He was a state representative, so he's obviously a great communicator....

4. "Create discussion and debate"
I guess there will be no let up in the race baiting. Will they let him use the Jefferson's Theme every time a black player scores a touchdown? Will Rush mockingly use the term "ax" for "ask" like he does every time he discusses African American politics?

They should ask MSNBC about the "discussion and debate" fostered by the short lived Michael Weiner show.

5. Their response to you proves one, or both, of two things:
Edited on Tue Jul-15-03 10:42 AM by GainesT1958
Either:

A) ESPN's execs are a bunch of not-so-closet right-wingers who really WANT Rush to start spouting off his facist tripe on their pre-game show, or

B) They hope that he and Tom Jackson and Sterling Sharpe will get into a fight with Rush (VERBALLY, he'd better hope :eyes: ) on the air, or

C) BOTH of the above!

B-)

10. Translation.
"excellent communicator" - liar and propagandist
"big sports fan" - and fat fuck who never played a sport in his life
"perspective" - a view of the inside of his rectum
"create discussion and debate" - spew falsehoods and bigotry for others to talk about

:eyes:

11. I received the same email.
My reply was
How can Rush provide the perspective of "the fan" when he speaks out daily, in very hateful ways, against minorities, the poor, women, homosexuals, teachers, lawyers, liberals and many others. I would guess a large percentage of football fans fall into at least one of these categories.
I will miss your wonderful sports coverage, but will not watch anything on ESPN as long as Rush is a part of your progaming.

12. It's a boiler room reply
I got the same message. I only hope that w* going down in flames by the time of opening day makes the vulgar one obsolete and his worthless opinion moreso, also that Shannon Sharpe will shape a folding chair around his head.

13. King Kaufman on Limbaugh Hire
This is a great article by Kaufman on Salon. I never watched ESPN's NFL pre-game anyway and I surely won't now. I don't know if this article is "premium" at salon or not (I had already viewed the "pass" ad - which is a good one from the ACLU).

If you're interested here's the link:

14. Hmm, how about starting to note the sponsers of the show
and start posting that list here on DU?

I guess that the pressure on Savage(weiner) may have some interesting clout.
