when our side have such good, sincere, intelligent and honest people supporting our cause while the other side have a bunch of maniac's, low life's and treasonous bastards, couldn't trust a one of 'em as far as you could throw 'em.

1. and Cindy and the Camp Casey folks
have invited Bush AND the pro-Bush Gold Star families to a barbeque on Saturday. Wonder if the right wing will reciprocate? (I'm not holding my breath).

4. That's an excellent move.
I fully support them doing that. It's exactly what we should be doing--showing our values of inclusion, empathy, and kindness, even for those who are our ideological opponents.

I hope they accept the invitation; but if they don't, sadly, it won't be terribly surprising.

5. I'm confused - Gold Star families -
I thought that was an anti-war group? Or is it simply a group of parents who've lost children in the war?

6. The term "Gold Star" came from WWII
I believe. It refers to the fact back then that people who had family in the military put a blue star in their window. If their loved one died, the star was replaced with a gold star. So "Gold Star" merely refers to family who have lost loved ones in the war. That's why Cindy's group as "Gold Star Families Against the War".

12. The Gold Star is a Military Honor, for those killed in action
I do not believe Gold Stars are given for valorous duty, etc if the person survives..there are other awards for that.

So the Family gets the Gold Star, and its ribbon, which looks like it would if it were to be put on a uniform and a certificate etc.

Bronze Stars and Silver Stars are awards by recommendation for acts of courage, actions over and above the line of duty etc.

Gold Star Mothers are the moms of servicepersons killed in action.

14. Actually, Gold Star Families For Peace differs from Gold Star Mothers.
The American Gold Star Mothers org was formed during World War One.
www.goldstarmoms.com

Gold Star Families For Peace, OTOH, was formed shortly after the Iraq war started, on the premise that it's not just the mothers but families, neighbors and friends who suffer from the loss of a child in war.

Hope this clarifies things.

11. Wouldn't it be nice to see their side turn into a Schiavo style freak fest
I'm sure they're going to do their best to control them, but look at what they have to work with.
