Why no WMD fabrication?
Since most of Sadaam's weaponry came from the US anyway, I'm wondering why the Bushies haven't gotten around to planting evidence of WMD yet. Surely it's occurred to our Faith-Based foreign policy team that the weapons aren't going to show up, right? Some of the possibilities are disturbing.

1. They really are as dumb as they look - Were they really so sure that weapon stores would show up that they really didn't have a Plan B? Are they more Forrest Gump than Darth Vader? The mind boggles.

2. They're saving the evidence - Tinfoil territory, but-- Do they already have some damning evidence on Sadaam's programs (Clinton thought the program was active, too, for some reason, after all). Are they so cynical that they're saving the proof for the election or some rainy day? Supposedly Blair supported the WMD contentions for reasons corporate America doesn't want us seeing.

3. They're saving the "evidence" - They're placing the throw-down anthrax supplies right now, but want the "proof" to age a bit before they go public with it. Don't introduce a new product in August, after all. Wait till, say, October '04?
Is the CIA in a mood to cooperate with such shennanigans right now? Is the CIA blocking a throw-down attempt? Wouldn't someone besides the CIA be needed for this?

4. The trail leads back to Halliburton/Bechtel, et al - Is the nature of any WMDs Iraq had such that the providers of said Death-germs and chemicals need to be protected by the president that they bought in 2000? Are they simply hoping that this thing'll blow over by November '04 (When some indicent requiring an invasion of Iran or Syria will tragically occur.

1. I vote for "1"
After reading John Diulio's comments regarding this "administration," it's obvious they have no plans or strategy, other than the one for staying in power.

2. I vote these days
for option one or option four... two and three require a plan
B, and they have no plan B

it does seem like she was high level in the
WMD "comunity" based on ML and Nightline today.

Could neutralizing her be the real lead and the
"yellow cake" a sideshow.

I have never seen as serious looking conflict
between agencys of the executive.

Interesting times.

5. I would go for 3...
...But looking at the current state of the admin, they probably forgot where they buried them.

7. It's not as easy as it looks.
One cannot simply leave a bunch of chemical weapons somewhere and claim the Iraqis made them. People will look into where the containers for any warheads were made and ask lots of questions of captured officials to see if they have any knowledge of weapons in a particular area.

8. You can't go wrong with 1.

They always work from the assumption that other people think and behave according the ways they themselves do. IOW, the tacit logic is "I/we would have been SMART and kept a bunch of them mean toys somewhere for the day the devil rides me/us. I/we would have cheated, and since we're The Greatest and truly know Evil he really should have behaved according to our ways, unlike one of those infuriating pansy libruls."

Then they get to Baghdad and Hussein pulls yet another Santa Ana move on them.

Possibility 2/3 is eliminated. One of the blogs- I think Atrios, or Josh Marshall's- has an intelligence guy who has seen the first drafts of Kay's report saying that Kay found zilch. No evidence for existing weapons, no evidence for any having been moved to Syria or Iran, lots of tedious sophistry about the little bits of rocket development and small dormant remnants of wmd programs. (Unmentioned is whether any further positive evidence of the destroying of such materials or munitions has been found.)

Option 6.

The Administration is so hell bent on a war, that they begin to believe the shit that is told to them by Iraqi defectors and other non-credible sources. People in intel actually fail to do their jobs (happened to some degree with 9-11) or are told to "back off" by the admin. So bad info becomes the truth, not through major deception or intrique, but rather poor ethics and overzealously.

On edit; we already had an option 5 above

The Bush team is really dumb. Is there anyone that you might trust? They are all ass kissers and suck ups. I think that the whole gang is very mediocre.

12. I figured as much
One of the blogs- I think Atrios, or Josh Marshall's- has an intelligence guy who has seen the first drafts of Kay's report saying that Kay found zilch.

Hah!! I remember a TV news report with Kay in an office in Iraq. He was surrounded by big stacks of papers and books and he was saying he would find something. He knew he would find WMD; it was just a matter of where. I actually laughed out loud at the report because it was so ridiculous.

14. They were guilty of fraud the second that they wouldn't let
the UN Inspectors back in. Any claims made should be scrutinized.
