1. The Kissimmee Kid is gone
So sad.

He has been very sick with cancer and just got bad news recently that it had spread to his brain and other areas.

RIP to one great fiddler.

3. Damn is right
Oh my.

Well, I have the best memories of a festival where he played Land of the Navajo with Peter Rowan. He was one of the greats.

RIP Vassar :nopity:

(All the pity, but couldn't resist our fiddle-playin' smiley!)

9. Wow. We just lost another of the greats.
Rest in peace Clem (as he was called by his bandmates in Old and In the Way).

12. oh, damn . . . I met Vassar years ago . . . what a shame . . .
many years ago, I was managing a jazz/blues club, and we had booked Vassar and Tracy Nelson for a couple of performances . . . Vassar arrived in a huge RV, and about an hour later, one of his guys came up to me and asked if I could find Vassar something "for his nose" . . .

well, I wasn't about to oblige, but I also didn't want to piss off Vassar . . . so I told the guy I'd have to see who showed up at the door that night . . . told him I'd get back to him . . .

awhile later, I found the guy and Vassar together, and regretfully informed them that no one who might be helpful had shown up that night . . . "Oh, that's okay," says Vassar. "New crowd, new crowd . . . " :)

RIP, Vassar Clements . . . your music will live on . . .
