I'm puzzled...Why won't Bush meet with Cindy Sheehan ??
Why has he let this build up to the point it is now? It seems to me he could have made a positive out of this if he had tried. Being the masters of PR, I'm sure they could have sold it their sheeple. But, for whatever reason, he ignores it, hoping it will go away and people will forget as always. It makes him look like a stubborn and insensitive chickenshit.

5. Let's see...because he's the biggest coward in the USA?
I'm sure that's most of the reason. Anyone else with a milligram of courage would have at least sucked it up, gone out to talk with her for 15 measly minutes, and pretended to care.

But it takes historic cowardice to be this cold.

7. Because he is a spoiled git?
He doesn't answer questions, he doesn't apologize, he doesn't change his alleged mind.

8. Sooner or later, every arrogant administration over-reaches,
and the tide turns against them. You shit on one too many people, and the people all of a sudden wake up and realize that it's you, not them. I think BushCo has reached that point with Cindy Sheehan.

9. I have been wondering the same thing.
I posted in another thread that if he would have come out immediately when Cindy Sheehan showed up, done a fake sad face (because you KNOW it would have been fake), let her say whatever she wanted, and then gone back into the ranch, it would have difused the situation to some extent. Why didn't he? Presidents and public officials often have to do things they don't want to do. But he can't even bring himself to do that? Do they really think they've got things that sown up? I don't know.

Now, however, I agree with the others who have said that he's let it go on too long. He would be "flip-flopping" (knowing in the adult world as simply reconsidering one's actions, but in Busharro world, it's the highest sin) and at this point, I don't think it would do him any PR good. Might do him some good as a person, but he's probably beyond that sort of help, too.

11. Yes, he could have said... after meeting with Cindy Sheehan...
I know there are people that disagree with our policy in Iraq. But, as president, I made the decision that it was in the long-term interests of our nation to fight terrorism wherever it might be. The troops that have fought and died in Iraq were brave and honorable Americans. In America, we have the right to protest. Our sympathy and prayers go out to Cindy Sheehan and all mothers and fathers that have lost loved ones in this war.

That would have diffused the situation to a large extent, in my opinion.

13. Hey, that's good!
I'm glad you're on our side and not theirs. ;) But, yes, he could have responded with dignity and ... pppfftt! Sorry, couldn't finish a thought with "Bush" and "dignity". That almost blew my mind. Anyway, seriously, why didn't this happen? It's bizarre to me. We would have seen through it, but I really think this whole thing is starting to make inroads into the independants if not the Repubs themselves. I think if he had done/said something like that, it would have stopped it from going further. I could be wrong, but it just seems so strange they didn't at least try.

10. His handlers miscalculated.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 10:49 AM by LibDemAlways
They could have nipped this in the preverbial bud had they quietly sent a car for Cindy, granted her 10 minutes with the chimp, and sent her on her way early on. Instead they sent out a couple of flunkies and hoped she'd go away. Wrong.

While her support and momentum were building, the moron was photographed riding a bike, attending a little league game, and whining that he needed to "get on with" his life.

Now its a big lose-lose. If he capitulates, he incurs the wrath of the reichwing. If he doesn't, he continues to be exposed as an insensitive chickenshit.

If he doesn't come out with a statement strongly condemming the desecration of the crosses and American flags, he looks even worse.

The mask is off. Faced with a situation they can't orchestrate and control, chimp and his inner circle look like a bunch of hapless fools.

14. Typical Narcissistic Behavior
He can't admit he's wrong, doesn't allow himself to believe he's wrong, imagines his world will collapse if he even appears to be "giving in" to those who criticize him. In his mind he is perfect and infallible and will allow no dissent or discrepencies to disrupt the fantasy. Allowing himself to believe that God is directing his actions strengthens the belief. As long as things go his way everything is hunky-dory, but when things go wrong, he loses it and blames others for ruining his perfect plans. He may even come close to a psychotic break if his infallibility is seriously threatened.

Cindy is blaming * directly for Casey's death and her opinion of him is something he cannot get around if he meets with her - so he avoids her. He's incapable of accepting that another blames him for anything. Nothing is his fault - EVER!!!

My ex-husband was, and as far as I know, still is, very much like this. It's quite common - especially amoung drunks.
