Was the Leak Planned by the White House???
Just a random thought I had, is this Rove's strategy to get Cheney off of the 04 ticket??? Will the blame be set on Cheney and therefore Bush comes out "unscathed"? Just a possibility, but hopefully, the independent council will be appointed and we can get this SOB that leaked their name

2. The leak was done for revenge and intimidation
Thats how this WH works and it is how it always works. Nothing more complicated than that.

3. They took it for granted that the public is going to put up with it
That's ALSO how the Bush White House works!

6. Yup. Somebody smart enough to know Plame was CIA
...but too dumb to know that outing a CIA agent is a federal crime. And that spells a politico, and that spells Rove.

5. Listen, it was never planned
Why would Rove, or anyone else, purposely embaress there own Administration on a massive level? Cheney is part of Bush. A big part. And no one knows what's really going on. At least if you aren't investigating it yourself.

I do know one thing, the story would not have taken a 10 week vacation and then come back if it did not have SERIOUS LEGS. Mark my words, this is huge.

7. If they wanted Cheney off of the ticket,
he could retire due to health reasons. That would ahve raised fewer eyebrow than a scandal.

10. Why settle for Cheney "retiring"
when Bush can "punish" him for "misbehaving"? An internal "scandal" that compelled Bush to "clean house" would make him look like he was his own man rather than a Rove puppet, and like he didn't tolerate ANYONE being above the law. Cheney gallantly falls on his sword in lieu of a conviction, resigns, heads home, rejoins Halliburtion, and starts running things from behind Georgie's throne. Meanwhile, Georgie gets to pick a more user-friendly running mate and looks heroic enough to use the whole "ordeal" as fodder for Election 2004.

Of course, it's just a coincidence that both Cheney and Condi have been caught in some embarrassingly obvious lies recently, and that TWO White House offcials are accused of outing the CIA agent...isn't it?

11. Yes, the leak was planned, but not for such a convoluted reason.
The purpose of the leak was to let Wilson and everyone else know that the BFEE would not put up with people who did not play ball.

12. there will be no independent counsel
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 09:31 AM by Seneca
That position was allowed to die in 2000. The law enacted in 1978 had a built-in deadline, and renewal was not allowed by Congress.

15. I think that was special prosecutor
If I'm not mistaken there can still be an Independeent counsel. One just has to be appointed.

13. Call the Plumbers!
Who has the number for the White House Plumbers? Everyone knows that if you don't fix a leak real quick, the damage a leak causes is almost priceless.

Oh wait, it's too late for a plumber. Call in the remodelers! The Squatters in our White House have almost ruined the place. Time for an eviction. And let us vow that we won't ever rent it to a Texan again.

18. Hubris, pure and simple
Or maybe just plain old fashioned incompetence? I keep hearing what geniuses Rove and company are - yet, it doesn't square with the sheer stupidity of this. To out a CIA operative is dumb enough, but one who was working in National Security?

I really think this has legs, I hope, I pray - 'cause this isn't just a "get Bush" moment. The outing of Valerie Plame was treason. Period.
