"We Don't Care" -- tell us something we don't already know.
Well, I think we’ve met the new Repug/RW slogan. It’s been shouted at a Gold Star mother who is trying to turn the grief over the loss of her son into change. It’s been shouted here by disruptors against everything we say is wrong with this administration and where it’s taking our country and the world.

Hey, at least they’re finally being honest.

And, I hate to tell them, but they aren’t telling us anything we didn’t already know about them. We know they don’t care about the environment, because they love their SUVs and any mention of trying to curb our energy dependence on oil sends them into fits. We know they don’t care about the reputation of our country, because they support sending Bolton to the UN. They don’t care that there are people in our country without access to health care because they work for a company that doesn’t provide insurance, because that would cut into profits. They don’t care about the civilians in Iraq, because they think the “liberal media” is doing something wrong by occasionally, when pushed to the wall by activists, reporting on some of tragedies that have been caused by the war. They don’t care about the Geneva Convention or human rights, because they ignore the abuses that have been going on in Gitmo and other places. They don’t care about our soldiers, because they think it’s just fine to have them fighting a war without a foreseeable end, with a lack of equipment, and anybody who suggests that maybe we should talk about bringing them home is labeled, by them, to be a traitor. They don’t care about our Constitution, because they support the PATRIOT act, which basically shreds the Bill of Rights and they act like the ACLU is somehow un-American for trying to guard some of our remaining civil rights. They don’t care that their beloved Bush Administration is the most corrupt administration many of us have seen in a long time, with their secrecy, underhandedness, and war profiteering.

In everything they do, in everything they believe, in everything they are, in the way they have chosen to live their lives, they have shown us that they don’t care.

How is that a rallying cry? How is that something that you want to be known for? How emotionally and morally decrepit do you have to be to make a phrase like “I don’t care” something to be shouted at a mother who has lost her son in this country’s military? How is that a stance? “I don’t care.” What pride is there in that when you are talking about lives of other human beings? What pride is there in that when talking about our country? What pride is there in that when talking about our future?

If they have ever shown their true colors, it is with this phrase. They do not care – not about us, our children, our world, our environment, our rights, peace, or justice. And the remarkable thing is that, by their actions and their attitudes, they show us that THEY don’t care about their country, their children, their world.

The only thing they do care about is themselves. And to me, that makes them pretty damn horrible people.

And no, they do not need to tell me that. I already know. I just wonder why they think it’s something to be proud of.

For those wondering about that "boss" thing, ...

Myself and B3Nut are the two person computer department of a company in Madison, WI.

In between repairing and building and networking and all that fun stuff (and occasionally changing people's homepages to www.democraticunderground.com )
, we spend our time visiting DU and getting mad at the Bush administration.

Sometimes employees bring in their home computers for us to fix, and we don't charge them anything at all for labor. We had one computer come in with tons of adware and spyware on it, and the person had "Proud to be Republican" wallpaper on their computer, and a lot of their internet favorites were of stuff like Rush Limbaugh, and crap like that.

It made me nauseous just looking at the damn thing. Sooooo...that's when the idea of changing the homepage came about. I mean, we ARE fixing the computer for free, so ......

Limbaugh, Hannity, Laura Ingrahm, Savage etc. have been ineffectual in even putting a dent in Cindy'd cause thus far. They can't smear a mother of a killed soldier.

When Cindy arrives in Washington her supporters will have incrased in higher numbers and it appears that Cindy and the people will take this to the streets. People in Iraq support Cindy!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=2004663&mesg_id=2004663

A difference between heroes: Sheean and Delay

Contemplating it as I lay in bed last night trying to go to sleep, I realize the fundamental difference between republicans and progressives. It's evident from whom we choose as our heroes.

REPUBLICANS:
Look to whom republicans choose as their heroes and WHY. As an example, I'll pick Tom Delay. There are others I could choose, but I need to make a specific point:

-- republicans make heroes of leaders who can cheat, steal or lie, AND GET AWAY WITH IT. They don't lionize anyone who doesn't act aggressively on their own self-interests. They applaud that Delay was able to cheat, and change the rules so that he WOULDN'T GET CAUGHT. To republicans, not getting caught is their "virtue".
Karl Rove is another example: republicans KNOW he lies and even know on some level he committed a felony, possibly treason....but they support him in droves. Why? Because they applaud what they view as his ability to weasel out of punishment, to strike with impugnity.
Republicans honor criminals, who ultimately get away with it....even criminals that hurt or endanger republicans. They look on it as "you go, Delay, show those liberals you can't get caught".
Being dishonest is a badge of rank for republicans.

If you think I am wrong, consider: is there ANY republican "hero" who has become such for acting altruistically? Is there ANY republican "hero" who has become such for being honest? Is there ANY republican "hero" who has become such for being human, or down to earth? Nay, I say. Republicans choose their heroes as men who put themselves ABOVE accountability, ABOVE the law, ABOVE even other republicans, and they are adulated as demigods.

And then there's Cindy Sheean. She is the progressive heroine. WHY?
Because she has a truth and an honesty that is evident to anyone who comes in contact with her. Because she values the integrity her son exemplified and strives to emulate it in his honor. Because she, in her grief, is reaching beyond her own circumstances in the name of other mothers, to same them the same grief. Because she wants to hold those who created the war accountable. Because she wants the lying to stop.

Sheean is a true american hero...strike that, a true progessive american hero. Because instead of getting away with a crime, she is pursuing those who would make crime policy.
Because she puts herself on the line for others she never met, to protect them from someone who never put himself on the line, even for people he knew.

She is a hero because she sees what is right, and without thinking, DOES THE RIGHT THING.

This is no small difference, my friends. Whom we choose as heroes says a lot about our own characters.

Cindy Sheean, although she would never think of herself as such, is my hero.

Lets all of us make her and others like her our heroes. But instead of exalting them above us like demigods, Lets grab her hand and pull OURSELVES up to stand beside her.

We are ALL heroes. We can be. Let's pull ourselves up.

6. Most of them don't even care about themselves.........
if they did, they smarten up and see that the people they admire and vote for are giving them a reaming up the ass. Their heroes are taking a big dump on them and laughing about it behind their backs.

If they truly did care about themselves, they would support people who cared about them!

They don't care about themselves. They just love to hate. It's their reason for living, to hate anybody or anything that doesn't look or act like them. They're scared little children, too afraid to learn or take responsibility for themselves. They depend on Daddy, their Republican overlords to fight for them. And all they have to do is hate in return for this "protection" from their mean, spiteful, drunken Daddy. Hate is easier than learning, hate is easier than anything else. So they hate.

If it threatens their comfy, cozy way of life, then not only do they care, but they'll be quickest and loudest to complain. But as long as it is impact someone else, especially if it impacts someone they don't like in the first place, then "we don't care" is a sad but accurate motto.

Beats me why they would be proud of that, though. From the bunch that doesn't surprise me anymore, this actually does.

23. Bush to citizen: "Who cares what you think?"
Brilliantly said, LisaLynne.

I'm reminded of an incident 4 year ago in which someone had a chance to express his disappointment personally to Bush, and received the rejoinder "Who cares what you think?" See http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/outrage/hangley.htm for the anecdote.

At that time, I thought that completely summed up Bush's attitude, and nothing that has happened since then -- including September 11 -- has changed my mind about him. Obviously the man does have supporters, and you've described them to a T. Sociopaths, all.

If you point out facts that support the assertion that the president is a BALD FACED LIAR, they'll fire back something about you being unAmerican, on unpatriotic, or give you some bullshit about Big Dawg Clinton...knowing GOOD AND DAMNED WELL they would shun anyone in their day to day lives who lied to them...knowing GOOD AND DAMNED WELL that they or anyone else for that matter would have been reprimanded and fired by now if they had performed on the job like the president has.

For the administration to admit they were in over their heads from the word go, yet they did it anyway...I don't see anyone PUBLICLY disputing the story...and I can't believe the masses who still believe everything and anything he says.

30. What Has Happened to Our Country?
We've hit a new low when people think it's perfectly okay not to care about anything. I think the problem is a cultural one. People seem to think intellectual=liberal, so I think that's why they wear their stupidity as a badge of honor. Not too long ago, Bill Cosby attacked young African-Americans for having a culture that supposedly embraces stupidity. I thought the attack was unfair because black people shouldn't be singled out for a problem that is everywhere in America, not just in their community. Americans hate intelligence! Somehow, they have to be made to see that being smart is not a bad thing at all. This country's survival depends on it. How could a country full of dumb people survive?

41. Point ON!! Truly sad how ignorance is glorified here
Intelligence is distained in US popular culture. On face value, no one would say that, but it's so accepted to hear people say, "I don't know and I don't care," and have that be the end of the story. I think it's linked to an addiction to easy entertainment, which is revered by pop culture.

Sadly, if you look at history and revolutions in other countries -- very often the intellectuals are the first to be singled out for removal of those who fail to conform. This was the case in Nazi Germany, Russia post 1918, the French Revolution, ancient Rome... Only now it is so blatant. Is there a cure?

51. psychopathology
Bush is at best a sociopath. More than likely he is a psychopath. A compulsive mass serial killer. Compare him to Ted Bundy. Superfically socaible, affable, emotionally hollow, highly deceitful and repetitively rageful and violent. The Left keeps appealing to and trying to understand the hard right. It is my opinion that about 5% of the population is either sociopathic or leaning heavily that way. There is little point in trying to reason with or understand a sociopath. They are absent a conscience and they are highly dangerous. The strategy must always be to identify them and then isolate them by placing boundaries around them. The psychology of this far right neo-con brand of Nazism is critically important to understand. Another additional 20% or so of Americans are totalitarian in nature and enjoy being told exactly what to do,when and where. What they most fear is complexity. This basically then is your bush-turd base. A core of sociopathic criminals with zero capacity for empathy and compassion and an additional 20% of foot soldiering fundies who revel in playing victim. I would argue that most all of the present Republican leadership is flat out, committed sociopathic. It is highly foolish to attempt to reason or appeal or negotiate with sociopaths. In fact they will enjoy and prey upon this kind of normal human behavior.

In history only 30% or so of the German population ever joined the Nazi Party. The hard core of fanatics and sociopathic killers were the ones that took over and victimized everyone else. The middle and the Left in that country learned to their peril that you don't waste time attempting to play politics with killers like that. They had their chance to excise that cancer before it mushroomed but they never did. They underestimated it because they did not recognize it as a psychopathology. These are chronic liars, killers and manipulators we are dealing with. In operation and thought there is little difference between them and Hitler,Stalin,Milosevic and dozens of other political thugs we have seen down thru the ages.

Remember when they used to call the liberals the "feel good" party - as in, "If it feels good, do it."? Well... looks like the Republicans are actually the feel-good party.

If you get attacked by Saudis based out of Afghanistan on 9/11 but it would make you "feel good" to attack Iraq... go ahead and do it if it makes you feel good.

If you're Dick Cheney and you don't like being asked difficult questions on the Senate floor, just tell the guy to "fuck off" if it makes you feel good.

If you're made uncomfortable by a mother protesting the loss of her son in a meaningless war, just drive your pickup truck over the crosses symbolizing the dead if it makes you feel good.

If you want to keep driving your SUV even though it pollutes the environment and keeps us dependent on foreign entanglements for our oil, go ahead and do it if it makes you feel good.

Time and time again it's turning out that whatever the Republicans are accusing us of is what they've actually been doing themselves.

The country has a lot of problems to deal with right now - war, bad economy, lacking education and healthcare, polluted environment.

And the Republicans don't want to try to help solve them - they just don't care. They've given up on trying to help others; they're selfish and they just want to do whatever makes them feel good.

50. True Colors are shown
This is unreal treatment for the brave fallen soldiers. It just shows what Cindy is up against, haters and mongers.

52. Thanks for that
You have put into words that which I have reluctantly come to know is true. The bastards just don't care about anyone or anything besides themselves. Time for a drink.

53. I'm just waiting for Bush to come out
and say the same fucking thing. Hell, he's given us the finger on more than one occasion. Telling us he doesn't care shouldn't be any big deal.

Ever wonder why George invariably makes the worst decisions and says the stupidest things at the worst possible times? Read my blog to find out why.
