FCC Rules on Personal Attacks
I found this on another board under an unrelated (i.e., non-political topic).

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/decdoc/public_and_broadcasting.html#RETENTION

As I read this, people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity couldn't afford the postage to send out the transcripts of everyone they attack.

I wonder if this couldn't be used against the radio staitions that carry them. I would presume the attacked person (someone with legal "STANDING") would have to complain.

But this sounds like a fun job for some DNC interns.

1. Do they really do this?
"Personal Attacks. Personal attacks occur when, during the presentation of views on a controversial issue of public importance, someone attacks the honesty, character, integrity, or like personal qualities of an identified person or group. No more than a week after a personal attack, the station must transmit the following three things to the person or group attacked: (1) notification of the date, time, and identification of the broadcast; (2) a tape, script or accurate summary of the attack; and (3) an offer of a reasonable opportunity to respond on the air."

2. I guess they must
apparantly there is more to operating a radio station than turning the transmitter on and connecting the feed.

4. I can't imagine that they do...
I sure that Rush and Sean in their wisdom have decided that what they do is not a personal attack.

What we need is somebody with legal standing to go after them and force them to do this for everyone they mention.

3. LOL, I thought it was something about personal attacks on DU
:bounce: Thanks, and this a real reason for some of the degenerate behavior we see in society, they are broadcasting to the population in general. To some effect, it rubs off on everybody

5. Do you really want to give this guy more publicity?
Look at what happened when Fox News tried to take Al Franken to court.

6. Rush claims he is "entertainment"
so that things he say just don't count to those slow witted humorless liberals. At least that's what I read. I don't listen to hate radio myself!
