begging to the UN, I called that as a victim play. WE ALL KNOW he wouldn't get a dime from anyone in the UN, which puts US in the position of the being the money bags.

Bush will blame it all on the UN lack of cooperation, that he HAD to raise taxes to bail out and liberate iraq.

Thoughts?

1. "I'm raising taxes, but ..."
It's the UN's fault

2. Never.
The Bushies blindly believe that only George Herbert Herbert's broken promise of "no new taxes" is what led to his demise.

They will do anything to avoid raising taxes, including going down in defeat, thankfully.

3. No way
If he was a true leader and a statesman, he'd ask for a tax raise on only the wealthiest in our country. But since he isn't, he won't.

Personally, I think a big tax increase on the Federal Gas Tax - half going to US infrastructure and half going to Iraq would be the easiest to implement.

Shameless Disclosure: I own a 50 Mpg Prius. :)

4. Related: Have you noticed how the spin on tax cut repeal is a "tax hike"?
The wingers are spinning this like a jet turbine. Any Dem who want to service the debt through cancellling the out-year tax cuts will be spun as "raising taxes".

7. Though, to be fair, even the Dem candidates are calling it that -
"raising taxes on the middle class" - when another candidate suggests it.

5. I agree with part of your posting.
Frankly, I don't really view Bush's recent visit to the UN as begging - far from it. I think it was more along the lines of the same "you're with us or you're against us" crap. He really didn't "ask" for much - he demanded that they help out and told them it was their responsibility.

I do, however, believe that it is very likely that he will blame the administration's inability to deal with Iraq on the UN. I have no doubt that he will claim that we failed because the UN refused to help.

6. I would be surprised if he did.
The GOP and its operatives have been spinning the deficit as no big deal. To shift gears and ask for a tax hike would be to admit that they were wrong.

If he does ask for a tax hike, what do you want to bet he doesn't shift the burdon to the middle class.

8. Then, like his daddy
that'll be the end of him. He can steal the presidency, game the energy markets, funnel the treasury into his cronies' pockets, recall the governor of Calif, tearass around the middle east blowing up countries... but RAISE TAXES?! Republicans won't just want him out of office, they'll send a lynch mob after him.

9. Six little words:
"Read my lips: no new taxes!"

The howler-monkey right never forgave Poppy for chosing pragamtism over doctrine. Junior will NEVER make that mistake (just plenty of others).

In his entire administration, Bush has always taken the easy route, never demanded sacrifice from his real base. He's not going to start now.

10. Taxes
He doesn't have to raise taxes. There's still plenty left in the Social Security account to borrow and when thats gone, his case for privatizing it will be stronger.

11. No way. His goal is to bankrupt the Federal Government.
In his mind, you have to destroy something to rebuild it. BushCo believes that the only way to get rid of FDR- and LBJ-era 'entitlement' programs is to totally bankrupt the Fed. :tinfoilhat:

12. I don't know
He could always hold up US contributions to the UN to pay for things. At the rate things are going, the US won't be part of the UN much longer, anyway, unless a Democratic candidate is elected President.

13. Only on the middle class and the lower income people - his
rch friends need more tax revenue streaming into the treasury so they can divert it into their pocketbooks.

15. Not a Chance
It is less likely that gold coin will rain from the sky and cows will work as dentists than it is that George W. Bush would ask for increased taxes.

16. Oh, how I hope he does!
That would be wonderful! Almost certainly we'll have record debt instead. Democrats must block raising the debt ceiling. They were fools to let it pass without much debate in the past. They need to stand up for fiscal responsibility to future generations.
