remember his fueds with Ludacris, George Clooney, and, of course, Hillary? I mean, the man gets obsessed. He wouldn't shut up about Clooney....he was like a middle-schooler with a crush. And he went absolutely rabid about Hillary's book outselling his. He devoted incredible amounts of air time trying to prove his book was selling better -- nevermind what the NYT list said. He wouldn't shut up about Hillary.
And of course he was totally over the moon to be invited to The Daily Show. He was giddy. And he tried so hard to flirt with Jon and the audience. It was so sad. Like the pathetic little kid we all went to school with who was so needy and desperate for love. And who always followed the quarterback and the homecoming queen around...just hoping for a little cast-off glow.

42. It must be frustrating for O'Reilly...

...that Jon Stewart's audience happens to be educated and upwardly mobile, whereas O'Reilly's audience is made up largely of underachieving, uneducated, embittered white males (and maybe the sort of women who end up with them).

The only person I know who is a fan of O'Reilly's is some fool from work. The guy is just like O'Reilly, actually--a tall, late middle aged, lace curtain Irish blowhard who can dish it out but can't take it, who tries to flirt with female co-workers in embarrassing and inappropriate ways, and who is so vain he has to pretend he's knowledgeable about every subject that comes up rather than just keeping quiet when he doesn't know what he's talking about.

The other day the guy saw me with a Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five CD and so he has to pretend he knows something about early jazz. He starts pontificating that I should listen to Kid Ory, obviously without having the least idea that Kid Ory was actually a member of the Hot Five and was on the CD I was listening to. I guess the guy heard the name once and dropped it on me, but he obviously knew nothing about him. I asked the guy what instrument Kid Ory played and he hesitates and then says, "He could play it all...the horn," and he mimes blowing into some kind of "horn." It could have been a bugle for all he knew. Kid Ory was a trombone player, but I opted to end the conversation rather than say anything to the guy.

It's no surprise that he's a HUGE O'Reilly fan. His hero O'Reilly talks out of his ass and gets caught out all the time, too.

I've known O'Reilly types before. Present any fact you want that shows them to be wrong; they'll twist those facts to support their own wrong idea. If they can't win through pretzel logic, they'll simply shout louder. When you get tired of arguing with them, they'll declare victory.

Unfortunately, most of the "O'Reilly types" I've encountered have been hopeless alcoholics.
