Poll question: Death Penalty for Corporate Crooks?
Do you favor the death penalty for corporate crooks--with due process of law, of course--like Ken Lay and Bernie Ebbers?

1. No!
The death penalty is as archaic and barbaric as the rack or the wheel! I would have no problem with 'natural life at hard labor', however.

2. I would like a sentence of forced poverty
All money owed victims would be payed back and any extra would be stripped from them and paid into the social security trust fund. The criminals then would be left with the cloths on their backs in order that they look presentable at the unemployement agency.

28. No death penalty, but they have to cough up all the money they have
to recompense their victims. Then put a lien on any future earnings or holdings of theirs that go beyond a minimal standard of living.

Also, no contacat with their associates in crime, or anyone with influence in government.

3. Send them to Folsom Prison and not a minimum security federal joint.
Let 'em survive on the same yard with all the young thugs their draconian business and political practices they helped create.

21. Yes! They need to go to real prisons
and stay there long enough that they will keep their noses clean when they get out.

7. Hell no.
The state has no right to kill anybody. At all. Thats the end of my involvement with that issues.

That being said these crooks need to be in jail... till thier hearts stop ticking.

8. No death penalty for non violent crimes.
Give them the power to execute for just any ole thing, then dont be surprised when they knock on YOUR door.

10. I disagree with this post...
But I would also question the idea that they are neccesarily non-violent crimes. The corporations, among other things, can subjugate workers to the point where they cannot make enough money to feed thier family, or have to work over 60 hours a week. Beyond that many are huge proponents of anything anti-environmental that will make thier bottom line look better.

That is indirect violence... not the same kinda nonviolent crime as arrested anti-war protestors 'commited'.

14. I just was contrasting your whining over indirect violence
Using your definition, its all indirect violence - so who wins in that game? The shop lifter or the rapists?

Just to this guy. I reply with a non-confrontational post and he calls it whining.

Conversations like this are useless.

And, thanks.

11. The Soviets executed "Economic criminals"
Not that I favor the death penalty, but it shows their understanding of the damage these criminals do. We send them to a Club Fed somewhere so they can swap notes and come out even more dangerous than they went in.

18. Military tribunals for Ken Lay and Bernie Ebbers
What a great way to test out military tribunals than to try them on Lay and Ebbers. That way we could fix all the kinks in the system.

Even if they were not executed I would favor their imprisonment in a MAXIMUM security prison. And we all know what that means.

29. I don't support the death penalty in any instance...
But I do think that corporate crook should be prosecuted much, much, MUCH more harshly than they are. It's amazing that someone can go to jail for 12 years for possessing a gram of crack -- but if you loot pension funds and defraud investors and workers, you can get off with a slap on the wrist.

30. Stripping of citizenship and deportation
We really don't use deportation enough in this country.

Who would you rather see deported, if you could only choose one: Raul Gonzalez (not necessarily a real person), who came into this country under cover of darkness, works long hours for low pay picking produce which feeds your family, pays his taxes fully and willingly, and wires money to his family in Mexico every week; or Ken Lay?

There has got to be some rathole in sub-Saharan Africa we could send the Enron crooks to. Also the Halliburton crooks, including the man some call VP.

32. Make them give back to comunity
Have them take jobs entry level jobs at Wall Mart and McDonalds to pay back the money they swindled. If they refuse such work then have them take up the roles of a day labor or migrant from another country to perform work at less than minimun wage and have do things that only machines should be perfoming.
