Murdoch buys out Myspace.com
Didn't anyone else hear about this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4695495.stm

This really sucks. I loved using Myspace to keep in touch with my college friends over the summer. Now I guess I'll have to give it up or else be assaulted by Support The Troops graphics and republicantees.com pop up ads.

3. "Murdoch says the networking site will drive traffic to his Fox TV sites."

......Mr Murdoch says the networking site will drive traffic to his Fox TV sites.

Last week the company set up a new internet unit. Mr Murdoch has said that newspapers have been slow to respond to competition from the internet.

5. Murdoch actually said he wants the media to control "consumers":
"consumers" being us.

The Guardian
We ignore internet at our peril, Murdoch warns editors
Chris Tryhorn, City correspondent
Thursday April 14, 2005

<snip>

In a speech to American editors in Washington, Mr Murdoch issued a stark warning to the industry, arguing that the web was "a fast-developing reality we should grasp".

He said consumers wanted "control over the media, instead of being controlled by it", pointing to the proliferation of website diaries known as "blogs" and message boards.

6. He gets hold of it
it will be more like lostinspace.com. With all the whoppers faux tells, I wonder if it will be another political tool?

7. Noooooo! Say it isn't so!
My 11-year-old grandson was with me for a week and spent quite a bit of time on Myspace keeping in touch with his teenage sister and with his buddies. His mom assured me it was okay and I monitored it now and then just to be sure. Looked fine, but now that Murdoch's taking over, I can see it will be IMHO--OBSCENE. As my grandson will say--Bummer!
