We had an ex-Army officer as a car salesman today
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 10:50 PM by drthais
seriously....

he left the army this past year
to take care of his mother who was dying of cancer
there was no one else to do it

he was in the military academy when 9-11 went down
and he had been stationed in Alaska

anyway, the bottom line is this:

he doesn't know what he will do in the future BUT
he will NOT work for Homeland Security
which he says he cannot do in good conscience
or any of the other position which furthers
this administrations grandiose
visions of destruction of America
he is mortified by the 'Patriot Act'

hew will not consider re-entering the military
until and unless this crew is OUT OF POWER for real and for good

that ought to make you feel a little bit better this Friday night

There are these old guys in ww2 hats that meet for lunch every wed. And they are very vocal anti Bush.
One day this guy named Mario said,
"It's not fair I riskd my life fighting in WW2 and they rewarded me by putting Adolph in the white House!"
I laughed so hard Pepsi shot across the table.
Figured you guys could use the laugh right now.

4. Were Bush as cunning as Adolph...
It's Cheney who is the creepy bastard. Bush is but Pinocchio without the heart.

My grandfather barely missed WW2 (he still was in the navy though and he only missed cause his halfbrothers went instead and were lost at sea) and he didn't like Bush at all and once called him a moron. ;) He and my grandmother voted for Kerry last year. :D

and to overhear how they talked about the WWII...this was about 1 1/2 months ago.

You would think the 50 year old white woman from Cleveland, OH was on the beaches of Normandy herself.

They told me that they thought the WWII monument was incredibly fitting for * to present and that the US "won" WWII: Not the Allies, but the US. I was afraid to ask JUST WHEN WWII began (in their not-so-humble opinions.)

Naturally I only pointed out Russian casualties and the time frame of the war. They gave me some sour looks then continued to play the I'm so proud to be American, but haven't done shit to earn that honor game...

5. I Hope So Too
But not so sure, I guess if you explain to them that they are fighting and dying to bring freedom and democracy to Iraq, while the politicians that sent them there are doing everything to take away
freedom and democracy from the American people, then they might start
feeling the same way.

7. Oh, there are lots of them that do
unfortunately they don't say it to the public or very many civilians. But I hear they talk about it quite a bit. My husband's company (unit? battalion? I don't freaking know) just got a new commander. I guess he is a hardcore democrat that hates Bush. He's even started forwarding to his commander anti-Bush articles/links that I email him. Surprising. As much as my hubby speaks out at work and elsewhere, he is usually very leery about emailing other soldiers anti-Bush stuff, even if he knows they are hate Bush. But here he is sending it to his new commander.

Nice. Imagine how they'll feel though once they find out they've been lied to.... :\ I always love watching old Vietnam anti-war rallies with the soliders and how they're protesting because they knew it was wrong but they still went (and Kerry's Senate testimony).

8. A quotation from Hermann Goering should answer some questions:
We got around to the subject of war again and I said that, contrary to his attitude, I did not think that the common people are very thankful for leaders who bring them war and destruction.

"Why, of course, the people don't want war," Goering shrugged. "Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship."

"There is one difference," I pointed out. "In a democracy the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars."

"Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

14. Just to clarify when and where the statement was made.
The statement wasn't made during the official proceedings of the Nuremberg trials. Goering made the statement to a French psychologist in a conversation between the two while the Nuremberg trials were ongoing.

The quote cited above does not appear in transcripts of the Nuremberg trials because although Goering spoke these words during the course of the proceedings, he did not offer them at his trial. His comments were made privately to Gustave Gilbert, a German-speaking intelligence officer and psychologist who was granted free access by the Allies to all the prisoners held in the Nuremberg jail. Gilbert kept a journal of his observations of the proceedings and his conversations with the prisoners, which he later published in the book Nuremberg Diary. The quote offered above was part of a conversation Gilbert held with a dejected Hermann Goering in his cell on the evening of 18 April 1946, as the trials were halted for a three-day Easter recess.

Just thought it would be prudent to be aware of this so that when referring to the quote we don't leave the impression that it was part of the official proceedings, as we all know how the opposition would like to jump on any such mistake to imply that the quote is questionable.
