Do Even Democrats Want Democrats??
I must say I'm a little bummed tonight. I have been feeling very positive about the things swirling around our beloved leader and feeling ever stronger about our possibilities of flushing him in '04---and my gut is aching for Dems to keep pounding the stake in the heart or the vampire will "walk again". But then I saw something interesting.

On CNN the ticker stated the new stats on REGISTERED DEMS' preferences in '04. They showed the 4 or 5 top guys--i.e, the ones who have a chance at the nomination and not the ones who will early on be flushed. This poll indicated that Gephardt had pulled ahead and was at 14% while the bottom slot at 10% was Kerry with Dean just a point or so ahead of him and the other two somewhere between that and Gep's 14%. STOP--ain't interested here and how popular you think your candidate is. I just wanted to point out two things that swept over me.

One, there is no one in the "wow, babeeeee, blowing the doors off this race (and I would not necessarily expect such at this point, but it would be nice). And, two, jeees...add all together and the big message is that Dems are NOT thrilled with ANY of them. Their biggest vote is for "god, do we have anyone else running"???, so to speak. We need more than Bush being cut off at the knees; we need someone who makes Bush look like he only comes up to our candidates kneecaps. Bottom line....do you think the Dems are still looking for "a candidate"?? If so, I have no idea who that would be because we don't have any "obvious" stars.......and no, Gore won't fly again 'cause the media will kill him and he knows it. Of course we will finally stagger to the finish line in summer of '04 with a candidate....but damn we need someone who lights a fire and inspires the people to "pass the torch" and keep a dream alive. These numbers look like we "ain't" found that person yet....and I keep biting my nails.

1. Uhhhhh, who cares
We'll be fine, whoever gets the nomination will be supported by anyone (Well, almost anyone) who doesn't like Bush. Plus, they'll be battle hardened and ready for a fight.

2. Yes I'm concerned too
We really need somebody to ignite the party, come on strong and really shine. I read a poll yesterday that seemed to say 35% of Democrats either don't like the candidates or just aren't going to vote at all. Not good. With Bush destroying so much, this is our chance to really come together with a cohesive Democratic message. I hope somebody is up to it.

3. It's way too early to get discouraged by our candidates
I remember when Bush1 was in the White House. I think Shrub is more beatable than Bush1 was at a comparable point.

Who knows? Dean or some other candidate may be another Clinton. But anyone's better than Shrub.

4. you are a political junkie
we are all, or we wouldn't be posting to this forum. Most people, democrats and republicans, haven't begun to think about the 2000 race yet.

Our people will get excited when the decision gets closer.

5. Agreed
We have to remember most people don't even know who our guys are.

I wrote letters for the Dean campaign at our last Meetup. Got a hand written response back from a woman who said basically. "Yeah, umm I just vote a straight Dem ticket, good luck to your guy". In otherwords even the primaries (which are still minimum 6 months away) were too much trouble.
