Have any of you seen this shirt?
To suppliment my income I have a delivery job from May thru Sept which involves delivering country music tickets. I live in a county which ranges from somewhat urban where I teach to very rural in the south part. I went to one house in the rural part today and was stunned to see the shirt this lady was wearing. In large print it said "How can a moral wrong be a civil right?" and had bible citations on it. My presumption is that it was referring to gay rights since the citations were Pauline scriptures. They weren't quoted so I can't be totally sure. I had never seen this shirt before and never seen such a thing in just casual wearing (as opposed to a protest). Just wondering how common the shirt actually is.

1. I've never seen it, but then again I'm in NY.
It certainly sounds stupid.

3. because I figured I shouldn't really go there
I have a hard time not lecturing people who are virulently anti gay and thus try to avoid going there. The only other possibility is she was discussing abortion which isn't in the Pauline texts to my recollection.

5. I honestly don't recall
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 11:05 PM by dsc
one was Ephesians and the other was in the Epistal John (I think). That part was in small print. On edit upon internet search it appears the homosexuality texts are in Romans, Corinthians, and Timothy. Since I don't recall the scriptures that were cited very well it is quite possible I was wrong on what was on the shirt scripture wise.

6. never saw the shirt, but i can
picture it-

and i would have asked her, why America has the death penalty, since God clearly states "thou shalt not kill".

Also, if the shirt was being used to justify anti-abortion (hence thou shalt not kill) one might also remind her that Saul (who became Paul) was complicit in the murder of many 'christians'- Most notibly Stephen.

Not to mention asking why a moral "god" would order the slaughter of men, children, and encourage the kidnap rape and murder of the women of cities which "his" people conquered.

--- i'm sick of the 'religious wrong' perverting God.

7. The Bible also says "Judge not lest ye be judged."
But I think the wingnut contingent scrupulously skipped over that page.
