"I saw ____ fucking a kid..." (from Taguba report on Abu Ghraib torture)

This testimony about a US guard raping an Iraqi boy is from The Taguba Report on torture and other abuses at Abu Ghraib. (PDF format - right-click on the link and hit "Save..." to dowload it.)

Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush sure know how to recruit terrorists.

108. How do you know what party those monsters belong to?
I doubt they even vote. Most kids in their twenties belong to no party or bother to vote. It does not help the cause to jump to conclusions. The military sometimes breeds monsters. It is in the brainwashing. A lot of Democrats are in the military but most young soldiers probably belong to no party.

116. Actually, I think the poster was referring to the CinC and his cohorts.
Let's be frank: This was condoned by Bush and his ilk when he thumbed his nose at the Geneva Convention, mooned the International Court at The Hague, and let his mouthpiece Gonzales write that torture was okie-dokie.

Those actions opened the door to this dastardly behavior. The "Party of God and Moral Values" is neither.

I'm so nauseated I can barely speak....the events of late have left me so numb and disgusted and angered all at the same time....

I will admit that while never wishing harm on others, these actions make me want every single one of these perps who have raped children and abused people to be put in prison and treated the same way. :puke:

For 3 months after I graduated instead of looking for a job like I should have done me and my friend who is a combat vet of the first Iraq War went around showing people on campus this sort of lit, we got right up in young republicans dirty little faces and publically showed them up to be cowards, we attended the last presidential debate in Phoenix and caused some major noise, we had facts about Kerry and Edwards that not even their dumbass campaign advisors told about them, my friend would take groups and talk about the realities of war and what this war is doing to America, he would also give little speeches to veteran's groups, I being an Ex New Yorker having been to NYC since 9/11 to visit old friends some of which are firefighters and NYPD told the yahoos out here exactly what those directly affected by 9/11 and Chimp's cutting of their benefits and ceasing of their increase in pay which ended after the Clinton years are saying about what's happening to them.

We took to the streets here, we witnessed a friend of ours get run over by some Republican in a jeep who was "pro-life" I watched my girlfriend get verbally attacked by some fucking redneck just before some other redneck tried to crush one of our own with his jeep (this served as a distraction at the time that stopped me from pummeling the motherfucker who was calling my girlfriend a baby killer)

In the end we may have reached some people but clearly not enough. You want to reach the average American yahoo you gotta plant their fat asses in front of Survivor or 7th Heaven.

I was there I was living it I went toe to toe with these bastards who support these criminals in power, I told John McCain to his face that he wasn't going to get my vote for turning Bush lapdog during the McCain/Starky debates I stood with Vietnam Vets and watched them get spit on by frat boys playing soldier in rented military vehicles, my friend and I reformed the Young Democrats out here and turned it from being a social club to a club that got shit done that got the word out, we braved the hot sun we didn't sleep for 2 days straight just before the election to make signs and put them out in the twilight hours (most of which we made and painted ourselves just hours before they were to be put up)

So alls I'm saying is NO ONE is gonna fuckin tell me that I should be ashamed I did what I could do, maybe I'm not radical enough to perform a stunt that will land me in Gitmo, but if anyone else is guess what? it won't accomplish shit but make an example out of you as to why "we liberals are the terra-ists"

feel the shame of this as time goes on. The fall of America is a collective thing, and just as all Germans feel the sting of being the country that birthed and allowed Hitler to come to power, so shall all Americans feel the pain of not having been able to stop this madman and his henchmonkey's sooner.

Which reminds me, have to book my hotel room for the IMPEACHMENT Weekend 9/24-26/2005.

6. No one can convince me the higher ups
did not know this type of thing was going on. They had psychological reports on all the soldiers sent there. So they hand picked the ones for the job from that. The average soldier would not have done those things and many would have been outraged. Since all of the ones there thought it was cute, they had to have been chosen from their psycological reports. They were telling the truth when they said they were 'ordered to".

I read/heard somewhere that the people chosen to go to Abu Ghraib were from prisons here. They were hard core wardens who had had massive rapes and deaths in their prisons. One was AZ? I think? Damn. I can't remember where I read that or heard it. They, no doubt, were given free rein at the GULAGS in Abu Ghraig and GITMO and were hand picked for the job. :(

26. Study the Stanford Jail Experiment.
Heed the words of Lord Acton: "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Only when "ordinary" people fully comprehend that "ordinary" people are fully capable of behaving in such a fashion, especially given the position of power and subtle encouragement, will we EVER make progress in eradicating such atrocities. The "powers that be" don't need to be overt in ensuring such treatment of prisoners ... far, far less will suffice.

53. Good Point. Stanford teaches the line of command need only
insure that the situation for abuse is created. No puppet master necessary. The Stanford study was shocking to all who witnessed it in the rapidity and ferociousness of its devolution.
Of course this excuses no one. Whoever set up this unsupervised hell scenario should be
slammed. In reality the guilty ones are playing golf with Kenny Lay et al.

An attitude of malicious neglect is more than sufficient. In the Taguba Report, that neglect was characterized as widespread. It should be more than enough to demonstrate complicity. There's no passing the buck on this one -- it goes right to the top. When they deliberately and demonstrably smeared the boundaries of "appropriate treatment" and failed to impose ages-old command discipline and oversight, they were intentionally unleashing torture and atrocities.

what they were doing to our soldiers and by extension to Iraqi captives. I hate the way the higher ups all get to go home and wash the blood off their hands and enjoy their lives; the corporates, the militarists, the politicos. It is so dangerous to have an uneducated majority. We are witnessing the return of the middle ages it seems to me...one of my dark mood days.

in Europe and I can tell you rape is common in the military.

Women and young males in the military were victims of abuse, and nothing was usually done about it.

The rapes Abu Ghraib does not surprise me at all, rape is a power trip. The pictures and videos must be pretty bad for the White House to be blocking them from the public. Get prepared when the pictures and videos due come out, but they do need to be seen.

I was trying to talk to a reservist - my boss - who has been to Iraq and may be called back. I think he honestly believes his koolaid stories.

He looks at me and asks me if I believe HE would torture anyone or allow anyone to be tortured in his presence. I said, "No, but I don't believe that everyone is as honorable as you over there and I think the administration was purposefully misleading soldiers to put out a memo condoning torture. Then the only people who were 'caught' on film and none of the higher ups get busted doesn't make sense.

He points to that one general who got nabbed for Guantanamo - and I said, "Right.... she was someone who came by and did a few inspections, and the commander who was there full time had NO IDEA?" He tells me the Guantanamo prisoners are treated with kid gloves and there has been no documentation of torture.

The other day he told me how DU - Depleted Uranium - was really not so dangerous to handle. I told him, it's a bit different when it's in the ground as fallout vs in protected containers being handled by trained persons. When you walk in Fallujeah, you're getting a rain check for cancer in 20 years. He shook his head. I told him, "For your sake, I hope I'm wrong."

42. Wow, your boss has been drinking a lot of koolaid.
The subject of rape was treated the same way for years, it doesn't happen, never happens, we would never let it happen.

To many lifers look the other way when things happen, couldn't let anything get in the way of their careers.

On the subject of DU, you couldn't be more right, our military in Iraq are walking, talking cancer victims. Also the babies being born to our military exposed to DU, any man going over should visit a sperm bank before he leaves.

83. Sorry , I' m back, here is a article about DU.
Film Poison DUst features vets exposed to DU

By David Hoskins

February 20, 2005--The premiere showing on Feb. 15 of "Poison DUst"--a documentary highlighting the effects of Depleted Uranium on veterans returning from the Iraq war-- attracted a large and engaged crowd at the New School theater. Filmmaker Sue Harris was on hand to introduce the film and take questions afterward. Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark and Sara Flounders, national co-director of the International Action Center, also spoke at the event.

DU refers to that portion of uranium left over after the enrichment process that makes natural metallic uranium suitable for nuclear uses. DU has limited civilian applications in the development of medical radiation therapy machines.

However, the military has found a more sinister use for DU in its operations. Because of its high density, DU is used in armor-penetrating munitions. DU munitions were used extensively by United States forces in both the first and current Iraq wars, putting soldiers and civilians at risk of exposure.

DU is both radioactive and toxic to the human body. Exposure to DU can cause a host of ailments associated with the kidneys, lungs and immune system. An increased risk of lung tissue damage and lung cancer has been documented among uranium miners.

The film features soldiers whose health has been affected by DU exposure, along with the wives of military personnel discussing genetic disabilities faced by their children as a result of a parent's exposure to DU. An increased risk of miscarriages, maternal mortality and congenital disabilities is associated with DU contamination.

It's a weapon of mass destruction.

The top U.S. military brass are complicit in the cover-up of DU's harmful effects on civilians and soldiers. The current attitude of the U.S. military leadership is similar to the approach taken during the Vietnam War, when military leaders ignored the health risks connected to the use of Agent Orange as a defoliant.

Several military servicemembers and their families, including veterans featured in the film, were in attendance at the premiere of "Poison Dust." The anger these individuals harbor toward the government that disregarded their health and safety was apparent during the open discussion that followed the film.

It is up to the anti-war movement to channel this anger into an active resistance of the U.S. war of occupation in Iraq.

As the Troops Out Now Coalition organizes for a mass demonstration in New York City's Central Park on March 19, "Poison DUst" helps demonstrate why soldiers have both a right and a duty to resist serving in a military that disregards the lives of GIs and Iraqis.

69. I marched too against the war, but never did I imagine in my worst dreams
that the war would bring this kind of thing out in our military and against the Iraqis! I was picturing bombs dropping and killing people...not our soldiers and contractors raping women, men and children. Not human pyramids of naked people told to engage in sexual acts and being photographed or soldiers punching handcuffed men smeared in feces until they are knocked unconsious.

And we marched then, many many weekends and yet why don't any of us march now? Now that we have over 1800 dead soldiers, 100's of thousands of dead Iraqis, knowledge of the torture we speak of in this thread etc...We even now know that these pigs running our country into the ground who started this war did it based on LIES! And yet, why aren't there marches now? Did everyone give up? Is everyone afraid? Does everyone think that it doesn't help to march?

These are lies, all lies, the enemy is trained to lie and say Korans are flushed when really we only accidentally peed on them. I mean, come on, our soldiers are honorable and why do you hate America?

Love it or leave it, terrorist sympathizer.

People see and hear what they want to see and hear and they disregard the rest. They just don't CARE because these are "all terrorists" and deserve what they get.

Seriously, I've heard the justifications so many times--on a board full of women, no less. I have tryed to get through to them to no avail so then I tried the low-key intellectual route, which doesn't work either. But tonight I was just so pissed that I railed on one chick who kept trying to say that "they" all want to kill us so Iraqis deserve what they get. I so hate my brainwashed uncompassionate selfish greedy fellow countrymen sometimes.

And yes, I can absolutely see them blaming it on a few bad apple homosexuals.

How could anyone with genuine compassion approve of, much less commit, the endless crimes and sins of this terrible regime?

When you realize how few Republican voices are raised to protest even the most depraved, treasonous, anti-American behavior, you know that this is a group of people who have seriously lost their way.

Protest! They defend it.

We often hear that the ** regime is not "genuinely conservative" or that they are not "genuinely Republican". I'd go further. It seems to me that they are not "genuinely American". And you have to wonder about their humanity. What are they?

89. The Bush Regime and Congress Violated the Constitution.
They are still doing so to this day.

The atrocities of Abu Grahib have been covered up. The War Criminals have not been charged.

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also proscecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

115. Something else that is disturbing...
I frequent a forum which a military recruiter sometimes posts
at. His take on the rape at Abu Ghraib prison is that it isn't
our problem...

Go here if you want to vomit...

122. NeoCon Response: "It's about Gays."
"Looks like you are making the case for keeping homosexuals(gays) out of the military.

If this report is true then that would suggest that Bush is trying to protect homosexuals. But you people on the left believe that Bush is anti-gay. So what is it? Is the story correct or is Bush anti-gay?"

129. And Cheney is threatening to veto an independent investigation
What a sick, sick bunch. Justice would be Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove all sitting in jail cells and worrying about getting raped.
