A little anecdotal good news
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 05:49 PM by spooky3
My one indulgence is getting my hair done at an upscale salon in DC (upscale but busy, and by far NOT the most expensive/exclusive place in town). As most of you would probably agree, quite a bit of self-disclosure goes on at bars and beauty salons. I twisted the arm of my French stylist to talk politics today (he's so polite he wouldn't ordinarily do so). But he quietly volunteered that several of his female clients who are Republicans told him recently they have been very disappointed by *. He asked them why they voted for him previously, and they said they did not realize who * really was. If that's true, that is a very good sign.

On the bad side, he had recently been to Europe and when he told people where he was from, he heard anti-American sentiment; they don't like Bush and then attribute his bad behavior to us, since we seem to support him. I then said it was my opinion that people still don't understand in many parts of the US what * has done, and that the media is a large part of the problem; that at one time there was a counterbalancing of power among the government, big business, and the media (e.g., in the days of Watergate), but now, all these institutions are increasingly controlled by Repubs., which is disastrous for our country.

He said that several journalists frequented the salon and every single one that discussed politics had Republican attitudes. So much for liberal bias...

1. Doesn't any one just go after the story any more, or is that just old time
Hollywood stuff? You know going after the truth or the story behind the story.

3. Nope.. They wait patiently beside their fax machines
for Karl Rove's talking points 'o the day..THEN they write their stories..

"news" people of today are not self-starters.. They are corporate asskissers with huge mortagages, huge car payments, and huge private school tuitions.. They have BECOME the people they should be writing ABOUT..

They are running scared.. One false step will put them at the back of the unemployment line.. Since most of the media is consolidated, if they screw up at one paper/newsroom/network, the balcklist goes far and wide..

4. That is really and truly sad because I think what use to be the driving
force to get the story or uncover the truth was the hope that one would make a name for him/herself. So much for freedom of the press. It is more pimping of the press.
