Look for 2005 "off-year" elections near you. You could start here (it would be nice if we had a better resource than this, though.)

Then get out of the chair, drive down to the good guy's campaign office, and volunteer. Or just call (I was being dramatic.)
In an off year, you can really make a difference, since campaign fever is not very widespread, so most people are pretty much asleep.
Oh, and don't forget to drop by your town clerk and verify your voter registration, whether or not you have anything to vote for yourself this November.
