If Rove was just trying to knock down Wilson's claims...
why not do it publicly? Why double super secret background?

My answer: that wasn't Rove's motivation.

1. Rove's history is to destroy who he sees as his enemy
He doesn't just try to prevail. He goes in for the kill. One sick and evil individual.

2. Rove had his reputation to uphold amongst the staff...
Destroy the enemy. That's what he has always done. To do anything different, would be like asking a snake to get up off its belly and start walking...

4. If there was nothing wrong w what Rove did, why did he lie for 2 years?
My answer: It was wrong, and he and White House knew it was wrong.

5. He knew he couldn't blow her cover in public. "I've already said too much"
says a lot. He can't claim to be a dummy.
