Was George W. Bush CHOSEN by God for the presidency?
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 09:16 PM by bluestateguy
Evidently many conservative (white) Christians seem to think that their president was chosen by God. Therefore, to oppose George W. Bush is to oppose God, and THAT is a sin, all therefore, all opponents of Bush must be evil. It also is a quasi-admission that the American people did not, in fact, choose this president. Rather, he was chosen by God. I suspect that many fundamentalists believed this all along, but 9/11 made their argument more plausible to many more Americans who were easily duped into the post 9/11 culture of fear. The Christian Right has always fantasized about a holy war, led by a "moral" leader like George W. Bush, which explains many conservatives' inability to take any criticism of their Anointed One.

1. Read "Bush at War"
It seems that Bush Himself thinks that God appointed Him as His special agent on the Earth.

Of course, there's the small problem of blasphemy, but that's for non-"Christians".

7. More like he was chosen to be the annointed PUPPET of the Pub Masters who
bitch slap him whenever he gets out of line.

Brain damaged from something, perhaps meth or ice as its called, he flounders on at the beck and call of those who placed him there.

Poor Bush, he don even know he being used and is the Patsy.

Talk about "The Imperial Presidency."

You're telling me the f***ing nutters want a return to ABSOLUTE MONARCHY of the olden days.

Ok, really not a shock... they had all the signs. But put bluntly it's scary.

Hehe... King George III of America. And it's really true, only two Georges before him.

9. Hmmmm...
wasn't it Jesus, the SON of God, speaking for God, that forswore the money changers at the temples? If ever there was a "money changer" it is GW Bush! Just to name a few examples of money changes, let's talk Enron, Halliburton, etc. They bear false witness, to quote from the same "scripture" those who bow down to Bush profess to honor.

10. Well, as Al Franken and others have pointed out,
if God wanted bush for President, he would have gotten the most votes, electoral and otherwise. Now we have an unChristian, thief squatting in our White House. God can not approve of this evil shithead waging war on people for approval ratings. That is, killing innocent people for his own motives. Axis of evil: Ashcroft, Cheney, Bush, Rummy, Wolfie, Perle, etc. Off with their frikkin heads.

14. I know for a fact
that God voted for Al Gore in 2000. However, he also wrote "Gore" on the ballot and thus disqualified the vote. This mistake has been cited by right-wingers as a vote "for" Bush, just the latest example of their distorted thinking.

Satan voted for Bush, mailed his absentee ballot in late and incomplete, but it was finished for him and counted.

12. If I were God...
and I wanted to select someone to be the leader of a country, I would use my powers to ensure that he or she won by a landslide. That would be my signal of divine annointment. At the very least, I would make sure that my chosen candidate won a legitimate, clearcut electoral victory. By contrast, Bush lost the election to Gore despite his brother's illegal, pre-election purge of the voter rolls.

13. NO

In Matthew 7:23 Jesus says ,“ I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
Thousands of voters were treated inequity when they were purged from the voting rolls. W is “an abomination that maketh desolate” (Daniel 12:11), and was raised to power by Satan.

15. Bush STILL has an approval rating of 49 percent...
So whatever it is, still gives.

Satan to Spearhead Bush Campaign

After recently firing his publicist, George W. Bush searched up and down for a replacement, and today he announced that Satan will accept responsibilities for portraying his public image.

Bush explained, “Satan has a long history dealing with tricky situations, such as that whole battle with God and getting kicked out of heaven. I still say Satan was robbed. Anyway, Satan has developed a niche. He’s seen as the Lord of Darkness. With Satan working as my publicist, I can hopefully develop an equally strong public perception.”

Bush added, “Personally, I believe that Satan has qualities of integrity and honesty that I can only strive for.”

Bush further explained his choice of Satan by saying that he has not worshipped the devil in the past twenty-five years.

20. If, on the extreme outside chance that there's a god, there's ample proof
that he/she/it is a total creep. So, if there is one, it's a fair bet that this is just another of its endearing bits of sadism.

21. that would be logically inconsistent ...
If one believes that God must be good AND omnipotent (as all the Christians I've talked to seem to believe), either of those assumptions would be invalidated if one also believed that God had put George W. Bush in that job.

An omnipotent being would have forseen that Bush would be so incompetent, getting thousands of innocent people killed and messing up not just his own country, but a bunch of others. (Heck, if you look at the archives of DU and other political websites, a LOT of people had serious misgivings about Bush even before the end of the campaign -- and if someone like me, say, could see disaster looming, for sure a divine power would be way ahead of that.)

And a good being would not want people to be harmed ... let alone for such self-serving and fundamentally unjust reasons.

I'm not a logician, but the three options I came up with would be that a) God isn't good (or at least not just then ... as in the old Irish saying, "The Devil is actually God when he's drunk"); b) God really didn't think it would get this bad; or c) God didn't do it, cheating/apathy did.

22. A strong case can be made for it.
Just for the sake of argument, Bush could easily have been chosen by God -- as a lesson. Bush has taught us how bad a president can be, how much damage a president can do. It is a valuable (if painful) lesson.

Times could get really, really rough fifty years from now. Maybe God saw Bush as the best way to discredit greed, spite, stupidity, and inhumanity. Bush is God's counter-example.

Just add a few commas, and you can easily answer yes. Chosen by the SCOTUS, by god!

Get it? Get it?

You see, I added that comma...and then that one... and now it seems like...like I'm saying "He was, by God!" you know?....and thats funny...and, maybe ironic, I guess...and...and...

33. So long as people don't know that Christ was a Liberal
So long as Christians are allowed to operate on the illusion created by phoney Christians that people can follow Christ and NOT be Liberals, then people like Bush, Delay, Helms, etc., etc., will be able to get away with calling themselves "Christians".

IMHO, the obvious answer is to mount a campaign to promote nationwide in every way open to us :
http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org.

See what Christ might say about the "Christian Coalition" & "Religious Right" imposters.
