Saddam's trial will NOT be a good thing for Republicans
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 01:03 PM by geek tragedy
For each charge that is brought against him, just ask "During which US administration did this take place, what was that administration's policy towards Iraq's human rights violations, and what role, if any, did that administration play in furthering or preventing each specific alleged crime?"

1982 massacre and war with Iran: St. Ronnie Raygun
Anfal Campaign, including gassing of the Kurds: St. Ronnie Raygun and Poppy Bush
Invasion of Kuwait and crushing of Shiite and Kurd rebellions: Poppy Bush

Of course, the "what did they do to prevent each specific alleged crime" is a trick question. Because Ronnie and Poppy never did a damn thing to stop any of the crimes Saddam is charged with.

History is our friend.

1. Of course you realize
Whenever any of those charges are leveled, they will come back with "oh yeah, so you support Saddam over the U.S.A.?"

3. Republican support for Saddam throughout the 1980's is an undeniable
historical fact. All they can do is mumble about the need to contain Iran at the time.

Remember, Saddam has praised Ronald Reagan as recent as 2005.

20. We missed a huge opportunity:
"Ronald Reagan. He's Saddam's favorite American President, too."

6. Information will only come sketchy to us
here in the land of freedom and will be scrubbed clean I'm sure.

8. Well, we should do our best to remind folks about past Republican
complicity. God knows they'd be doing it to us.

9. It was during Ronnie's administration, and Reagan ignored
the crime--he was trying too hard to kiss Saddam's ass.

12. It would really spell disaster for the republicans if....
Hussein is allowed to call all the witnesses on his witness list. Spit in one hand and wish with the other, ain't gonna happen...

13. It doesn't take witnesses, just reporters with guts. Which would
probably be an even bigger miracle.

14. I was thinking of the actual trial (if it even happens)
I think there will be plenty of reporters with guts covering the carnival (again, if it even happens), but sadly none will be from the American press.

15. Also - was Dems in Congress who said 'no more aid to Saddam, he's crazy'
back then. Bush FUNNELED billions of our tax dollars to him ILLEGALLY and when it was uncovered had a LONE WOLF bank manager take the fall.

Christopher Dragoul fought the charges at first and even Kissinger was named as privy to the transactions according to the court transcripts. Then he suddenly switched and said he did it on his own. He was 35yo and oddly, died in prison of 'natural causes' about 4 years into his sentence. The press was told of his 'death' a week after it supposedly occurred.

"FDR was allied with Stalin so its not Raygun's fault he turned on them"

17. As if Nazi Germany and Iran were the same level of threat.
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 02:46 PM by geek tragedy
Speaking of which, isn't Iran still governed by hardline religious extremists who are much closer to getting a nuclear bomb than Saddam was at any point after 1991? Seems like Iran is just a big of a threat now as it was then . . .
