6. Here you go...WOO HOO.
After MBNA raised my int. rate to about 19% from 9%, for no real understandable reason, I just did a balance transfer of the entire amt. to a card sponsored by AARP.

Good-bye MBNA!

7. Woohoo!!! Double Woohoo!!!
I sent mine 5 months ago and then called them up to cancel the account, telling them exactly why I was doing so. They grovelled a bit, transferred to an "associate" who tried to talk me out of it. I repeated why I was cancelling and told them to take me off of their list for mailing. It was a great feeling to cut up the card.

Yup, we're operating on a cash only basis from now on!

17. It's a great feeling! I do keep a card for convenience
(checking into hotels, etc.) but everything else is cash or debit.

25. You'll like Progressive
Had my first accident in about 30 years a couple of months ago. They had my car in the shop the next day, I had a rental car the same day. They took care of everything & called every day to update me. Best of all,I just got my latest bill, it didn't go up one cent.Progressive is the best.I switched from Geico about 5 years ago & never looked back.

24. the wife and I ..
... had both a joint card, and her personal card (both with MBNA). Believe it or not, her personal card was a "Working Assets" card, supposedly for the benefit of progressive causes. (They need to get a new processor :))

Both times they tried to talk her out of it. The second time, they were particularly strident and stupid, claiming they didn't know what she was talking about re: new Terms and Conditions. She finally had to get almost nasty with them to drive home the point "your company sucks and I'm voting with my feet".

Assholes.

27. Yeah, I have the Working Assets Card...only realized *afterward*
that they're owned by MBNA, and just what a meager percentage goes to "progressive" causes.

well, one of these days, I'll pay it off. and then we'll see.

*are* there any credit card lines that don't ultimately go to a red corporation?

28. I had a similar dilemma, it was an MBNA "Sierra Club" card
So I thought it was good to keep it for the Sierra Club.

Well, I've come to realize that Sierra Club can do better for fundraising, and it wasn't worth it to me because MBNA has terrible customer service. Not to mention being a "red" company.

Go through a credit union.
That's what I'm transitioning to. It feels great!

to cancel both cards immediately.

29. Well Done!
We paid ours off a little over a year ago, but we've been "cash only" for several years. VISA check card works great for convenience. We still plan to get one card for bona fide emergencies -- we're getting to that age where parents in other states are getting sick, etc.

Good job. My husband's MBNA will be zero by the 1st of August.
An open, zero-balance account will give your credit score a boost, too.

Congratulations!
