The crime of outing a CIA agent vs. the crime of lying -reasons for war
I think the crime of outing a CIA agent should not be dismissed as if it's practically nothing (Frank Rich and TPM).

For one thing - a lot of people have bought into the notion that our government officials should be able to decide to go to war on whatever reasons that they have and they don't need to share them with us. Like the people who believe that the politicians are looking out for our best interests and we should go along regardless (at least Republicans when Republicans are in power). They assume there is stuff that we could not be told for national security purposes and so it is reasonable for the President to say whatever he needs or wants to say and we are not supposed to assume it is true anyway.

This is not what I believe - but for the people who do believe that - they might see the crime of outing a CIA agent as the only crime worth considering and if people dismiss it like it is nothing - it is like dismissing the case, entirely, for those people.
