Obstruction of justice charges against Bush
Edited on Sat Jul-16-05 02:14 PM by cestpaspossible
The Prosecutor Never Rests
Whether Probing a Leak or Trying Terrorists, Patrick Fitzgerald Is Relentless

-snip-

A solidly built former rugby player who enjoyed getting muddy and bloody well into his twenties, Fitzgerald is nothing but confident in his own skin. Just as he does not fear bin Laden, he seems to fret little that he is now tangling simultaneously with the Bush White House and the New York Times, two of the nation's most powerful and privileged institutions.

Fitzgerald, 44, is the special prosecutor investigating the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame's name to columnist Robert Novak. The gifted son of an Irish doorman makes no bones about challenging the establishment. His office is also prosecuting former Illinois governor George Ryan and loyal associates of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley on influence-peddling and corruption charges.

He sees his task as getting to the bottom of things in ways as creative as the law allows. The law doesn't say you can't question a sitting president about his contacts or an investigative reporter about confidential sources. So Fitzgerald has done both, including quizzing Bush for more than an hour in the White House last June.

No doubt Bush was not under oath, however, if I'm not mistaken, that doesn't really matter... if it can be proved Bush practiced deception, obfuscation, or even feigned ignorance during that interview, he could be charged with obstruction of justice.

1. Bush took the oath of OFFICE. He is responsible for all actions he took
regarding the governance of this country.

14. Exactly
He's still under oath today. Not just January 20th. He's under oath every second he's president.

2. Can you or anyone answer a question for me?
Who in the He** does Bush think he is and why does he feel he shouldn't testify under oath. That's his MO, and Cheneys. It makes my blood BOIL and convinces me even more that he has much MUCH to hide.

5. Bush believes he is "a child of special privilege". That's the way he
has lived his entire life-not having to answer to his actions.

6. Maybe before all of this is over, they will be called back to
testify UNDER oath. Can't wait for that day because you know they both will raise hell. I think this country is in a mood to have them bite the bit and testify under oath.

9. Well my point is
that if you are interviewed by a prosecutor conducting a criminal investigation, you are in a much more precarious situation than if you are simply testifying under oath... the bar is much lower for proving obstruction of justice than for perjury.

3. I believe that's true. It's termed lying to a Fed prosecutor.
I don't believe you have to be under oath for it to apply.

4. The "hard work" is proving whether he's feigning ignorance, or it's real.
bush has lost all his cognitive marbles.

Cheney, though, that's a different story. Say, anybody seen that putz lately?

8. Heard today on CNN that he is having his yearly check-up and
two things to be done are: colonoscopy and checking something to do with his heart...circulation? Maybe that scope will find his evil brain.

10. Doesn't The Patriot Act now give the CIA authority for domestic spying?
And does their authority to spy on U.S. citizens include The pResident, if it is in the course of this investigation?

Bush has done a heck of a lot to piss-off the CIA.

Not only is he responsible for blowing the cover of Valerie Plame, he's also responsible for the deaths of at least one known operative because of it. The body count is likely much higher.

And then he tried to pin 9-11 on "intelligence failures" for which the CIA was partly blamed.

And the FBI can't be very fond of him, since he's seen to it they're shouldering part of the blame. And Bush has discredited FBI reports of torture-- many of which, by the way are blamed on CIA agents and mercenaries impersonating FBI agents.

So, Bush has pissed-off the CIA, FBI, and the media.

I hope he hasn't pissed-off The Secret Service yet.

Maybe Bush realizes he can't afford to piss-off the SS. After all, he didn't blame him when nobody interrupted his bicycle ride while his wife was being hustled to a bomb shelter in the face of an airspace incursion.
