Why living in the South is hell on earth.
Here is just another example from our local editorial page today:

Media won't be fair to Karl Rove

Re: "Who's lying: Rove or the White House?" (letters, July 14).

Michael Miller begins his letter by stating, "Recent news reports ..." There is his problem right there. Is he referring to the media that outed Valerie Plume - the same media that hate Karl Rove and want his head on a platter?

I prefer to be like Joe Friday, who wanted "just the facts."

Fact: Karl Rove never disclosed a covert agent. A covert agent must have been doing work in the field sometime in the last five years. She has been a desk worker.

Fact: Wilson was never recommended/asked by the vice president to visit Niger; rather it was his wife who suggested he go to her supervisors.

Fact: Joe Wilson has donated thousands of dollars to and been a staunch supporter of the Democratic party. And, by the way, there's still no one who knows who is being protected by the New York Times' Judith Miller sitting in prison.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Democrats and the media would worry as much about winning in Iraq as about trying to claim a trophy kill in the White House?

The president, when asked about the Rove situation, had the perfect answer: "We're in the midst of an ongoing investigation, and this is a serious investigation. And it is very important for people not to prejudge the investigation based on media reports."

1. I am always tempted to reply to letters like this.
I have learned over the years that it is too much like trying to teach a pig to sing!

2. The sad part is....
that is appears as if she is repeating all of the GOP's talking points. This administration and their supporters are so damn frustrating.

5. you have to reply
so often, the RW gets their talking points in and those talking points then sinking into the mainstream consciousness. I bet still a good number of Democrats still believe that Bill Clinton refused Osama's head on a platter when the Sudan offered it to him on 3 different occasions... not to mention how many independents & Republicans believe that lie. Why do people believe it? Because it was repeated so often with no response that it sunk in.

His letter is MUCH better! But then again, I'm prejudiced since he's my partner. :-)

9. I often have the same thoughts (Mississippi, here)
but just because we're TEMPORARILY outnumbered, don't abandon all hope. Florida, after all, is about half-and-half Repukes and Democrats. Maybe Utah is more solidly Repuke than Mississippi, but I look at it this way: There are more liberal Democrats in Mississippi than there are in Vermont. We just have to be smarter, work harder, and NEVER GIVE UP!! Okay, call me Pollyanna... :-)
