Isn't life a bitch? The world is going to end. You don't even have to be a religious fundamentalist to see that's true.

Some people collect postal stamps; Exit Mundi collects scenarios of what could go wrong with the world. Sure, our planet could get hit by an asteroid. But hey, that's nothing. Did you know we could all be munched away by hungry molecules? Or that our physicists could unintentionally wipe us all out while tinkering with particles? `Oops, sorry...'

Exit Mundi isn't in it for doom preaching, but strictly for fun. It's a fascinating thought: if that &*%#-comet didn't wipe out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, we wouldn't be here pondering about apocalypses and armageddons in the first place. The dinosaurs roamed our planet millions of years longer than we did. If it wasn't for the comet, they still would.

That's why this site is a tribute to floods, quantum explosions and awfully big chunks of space rock falling out of the sky. If there's a lesson to be learnt, it should be that within every end looms the dawn of a new beginning.

Dunno--depends on what point you're at in the cycle of change. Personally, I'm going for man's self-annihilation but then again Nature doesn't like to be preempted. ;-)

And many are legitimate theories...along with some fun ones for sure. But, many are quite real.

I'm for the Ice-9 theory. I think it was Arthur C. Clarke who theorized the reason why we have no proof of alien life or any real visits is because at some point a society reaches a technological proficiency and starts experimenting on radical physics (like quantum) and soon they do something they shouldn't have done, bingo bango, they're annihilated and so is the surrounding 10 million miles. Intelligent alien societies self-annihilate before they can reach a level of profecient space travel . Perhaps 1 in 100 makes in through this evolutionary step, but that sure leaves an empty universe.

The end of the world and our corner of the galaxy will start as a simple, seemingly innocent science experiment. At least it will be quick and we really won't know what happened.

It's what makes me a little nervous to read about all the new particle accelerators we build. And, to be honest, I've got a small worry in me about the new fusion reactor being built in France.
