Let's not forget this important fight.

what an *hole.

Two months ago, while his confirmation was in trouble, Bolton began efforts to double the office space reserved within the State Department for the ambassador to the United Nations, according to three senior department officials who were involved in handling the request.

Previous ambassadors have kept a small staff in Washington in a modest suite. Bolton told several colleagues he needs more space and a larger staff in Washington because, if confirmed, he intends to spend more time here than his predecessors did.

"Bolton isn't going to sit in New York while policy gets made in Washington," the administration source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the source lacks authorization to discuss this on the record. But Bolton's efforts to obtain more space have encountered resistance. Two colleagues said Bolton's request was inappropriate because he had not been confirmed.

1. Huh?
"Bolton isn't going to sit in New York while policy gets made in Washington,"

I'm not sure he really understands the job description of ambassador to the UN.

2. Well I think we all know he has a warped view of it
The UN, from his perspective, should be just an extension of American Foreign Policy. A lot like the old Communist International (Comintern) under the Soviet Union. In theory it was a meeting of all the communists parties in the world; in practice any communist leader in any country learned that he damn well better do whatever the Soviet Union wanted. The Communist Party USA lost several of it's leaders by "deviating" from the Soviet Union's line.

By the same token, if the UN were working right it would be a rubber stamp organization to do whatever the United States wants. This is how Bolten sees it; and so the real power will be in Washington. It woudl be his job to go up to the UN every so often to pass on directives from the real source of power - the United States!

3. It makes no difference to this administration how Bolton gets in,
the President won't be denied whom he wants no matter that it isn't good for this country. Country be damned! Bolton is a loyal friend to Bush, thats what matters.
I've written, pleaded, and called various senators and congress people over Bolton and to think it may come down to this. Can't someone do something? I don't care that he may be somewhat ineffectual, he could still do a lot of damage.
