Washington Press Corps Afraid To Ask Questions About Rove
Edited on Sat Jul-09-05 06:24 AM by Jon8503
Questions for Rove? Nope, none here

We're the first to say that there are still more questions than answers about Karl Rove's involvement in the Valerie Plame case. But we can all agree that there are questions, right?

Apparently not. As Judd Legum notes at Think Progress, today's White House press briefing was the Washington press corps' fourth chance to ask Scott McClellan about Rove's involvement since his lawyer admitted that Rove was one of Time reporter Matt Cooper's sources on the Plame story -- and once again not a single reporter bothered to put a question to the White House press secretary.

It's not like there aren't questions to ask. Now that Rove's lawyer has admitted that Rove talked with Cooper, for example, would McClellan like to revisit his own statements about the Plame case? Say, the one in which he said that he'd talked to Elliot Abrams and Scooter Libby and Karl Rove, and "those individuals" had "assured" him that "they were not involved in this"?

2. The silence is eerie.
Remember the good ole days when reporters were jumping on each other's backs to try to yell out the next question; and it would be a real probing question and the person who was the target of the question would actually feel compelled to answer it?

<sigh>

4. Surely Helen Thomas has gotten email from people asking her to do it
She may have also been told to ask no questions. And it could also be that the WH press corps is deferring to the blogosphere to heat this to the boiling point.

I still cannot believe that Bush had the GALL to silence Helen Thomas, the most veteran reporter there.

I too have been wondering about the press silence regarding this case. It's eerie. I think after all the media "scandals" like the Dan Rather thing, reporters are very careful as to not appear too "liberal" or "left-leaning." The networks realize that we have a conservative President in office, which ostensibly reflects a conservative nation. The networks and news source don't want to piss off a conservative nation.

BUT - I can't WAIT until the day they drag that evil man out in handcuffs right next to the man he molded and created, George W. Bush.

8. I think you are probably right.
Once an indictment is public knowledge, that'll be their cover to start asking questions. Until then, no one wants to be the first. A bunch of gutless wonders...
