Finally saw "The O'Rielly factor"
Man, I could not believe it. We just got Fox news in Canada... currently it's on a free trial basis.

O'Rielly had the fucking audacity to say, "You're insulting decent people." After reading a letter comparing Londoners to regular Iraqi people who were killed.
It was sick, he essentially said even the regular Iraqi citizen, not involved in insurgency, is worthless.
As well, according to him, "Canada lets in anyone" when it comes to immigration.
Naturally he DIDN'T mention not one of the 911 hi-jackers crossed in to the US from Canada.
I'm not worried about this dick though. The borderline hate speech he spews will, no doubt, be a target for the CRTC. That will be an amusing battle to watch.

4. Canadian Radio-television and telecommuncations commision
Kinda like the Canadian FCC... they don't take kindly to hate speech and extremely bias reporting on their airwaves.

10. Unfortunately HeyHey hasn't seen what our Brain Washed Masses have
been following for many years.

Even though Faux news ratings are falling, I knew many that watch this liar for many, many years, and deprogramming takes time and alternate news or opinion sources which were not available and still not available have resulted in the political stupidity you are witnessing in this country over the years. As the great Canadian, Marshall McLuhan said in one of his many great books ie "The Medium is the Message, O'really was creating shit right out of one of McLuhan's books on objects of desire.
The objective of advertising men, said McLuhan, is the manipulation, exploitation, and control of the individual.{5} If this is true, then who, one might ask, was doing the controlling, and what was the desired effect?

HeyHey, I hope you use a good soap in your bath after watching your "american cousin"

(just a reference to Lincoln)

8. There was a reporter on O'Rielly today
From a British paper (forget which one) Bill was going on about "Anti american press" in the U.K. And kept throwing obsucre quotes at her to try to prove his point. Considering the quotes he used came from an Arab newspaper you'd think he'd grasp the fact it wasn't from the mainstream British press. Not that the British press has to answer to the Americans.
Of course, that knob seems to think anything questioning the war is "Anti - american," so that wasn't helping the situation.

9. Doesn't CRTC do some censoring there?
I've heard it does. I can't imagine them letting this kind of program off the hook in Canada. O'Lielly's done some hateful spewing of anything non-American or different than he is...which is just about everything.

14. No, not censoring
Naturally hate speech and bias news isn't allowed (in theory). But other than that Canadian TV is open season from unedited sex scenes to extremely foul language and bizarre lifestyles and politics.

15. I've heard otherwise
Maybe it's not considered censoring. I have some friends that are heavily into pro wrestling. Canada is as well. The wrestling shows here are played in Canada will sometimes use another camera angle rather than showing a perceived violence against women, for example.

This was a few years ago so perhaps it's changed since then. I'm going by what they're canadian friends told them.

11. I was sickened to hear that FUX is now in Canada.
It's like allowing a brain rotting virus to enter the population that will spread throughout the country. (And no, I'm not being overly dramatic. I live with the pod people here in Mesa, AZ.)

lives in Mesa.

At least I know SHE'S not a pod person. She actually thinks I should run for office.

Eeek. Now THERE'S a scary thought.

16. Always great to hear about another free thinker.
We're woefully outnumbered and scattered around Mesa. The good news, though, is that for the first time there were enough of us to open a busy field office for the Kerry campaign in 2004.

I've been unbelievably lucky in finding people who actually comprehend what's going on in the world. My daughter's sixth grade teacher, our hair dresser, daughter's riding teacher, other daughter's violin teacher are all Dems! Yeah! It's so nice to be able to say whatever is on your mind without any tension. Only our piano teacher is a dyed-in-the-wool Republican fundie. He's a sweet man, but grrrrr.

20. I got to meet my wife's family
at a memorial service/wake for her grandmother last month in Payette Idaho. Despite the wishes of her grandmother, her uncle arranged for the service itself to be held in the local mormon church. Oddly enough, this wasn't well-received by either her daughter (my mother-in-law, who's agnostic) or my wife's generation, which seems to be FULL of freethinkers.

My wife says her mother's more of a Libertarian than a Liberal, but I'm not so sure. After reading my blogs, she not so subtly suggested I should consider running for office.

I shudder at the thought...seriously.

I'm terrible candidate material. I'm pretty sure people aren't ready to vote for a long-haired semi-agnostic pantheist humanist author who's also a unrepentent pot smoker. Besides, I really don't like being the center of attention.

17. I live in Ahwatukee
Same situation, though we have pockets of sophistication and enlightenment. There are so many fundie churches around these parts though, that I despair of ever gaining a liberal Democratic foothold. In my district we typically don't even have one Democratic challenger to any seat on the legislature or school board. Very frustrating. I'd run myself but as an unmarried, childless, atheist I'm pretty much un-electable.

John Huppenthal is our state Senator. Need I say more?
