We are preparing for Hurricane Dennis and I got to tell you
I got a big ole knot in my stomach. Trying to secure anything that might be a flying projectile out in the yard. Stocking up on bottled water. Staking the red buds. New batteries for all the flashlights. I just don't know if we'll evacuate. I'm sure the contraflow plan will be put into effect on I-59 where all lanes of the interstate will be northbound from The Louisiana state line to Hattiesburg. Damn, its not even mid July yet.

3. You take good care of yourself, Boss
Don't be one of those folks who takes crazy chances, okay?

I'll be praying for your safe passage through the storm. Please check in as often as you can, okay?

Arnie

8. Its a bizarre catch-22
I want to evacuate because something might happen to our home and proprety, but if something happens to our home I want to be there right away when the storm is past. And if we evacuate, the return trip will be just as traffic clogged as the evacuation route. I need to scout out a local shelter. Thanks for the prayers.

5. Hunker down, batten the hatches and stay safe!
I live on the coast (in NC) and I always get a weird adrenaline rush when preparing for a hurricane. There is something strangely exciting about it. Stay safe!

7. Is S. Louisiana still the projected landfall point?
Dennis appears to be following Cindy, who just dumped a lot of rain on us.

10. Current projections has it
hitting the Mississippi-Alabama border sometime Monday morning. Atlanta will probably get some residuals early next week.

13. Was checking the storm tracks
we may get a break from Dennis, but that will likely change. If you have to leave (hope you don't), leave early. I'm sure you have the plan in place.

BTW, when's crawfish season back on? Haven't seen any here in the freezer section in weeks.

9. I got my big knot yesterday
(Pensacola)

Everything of value went north on UPS.

If you go - go early. Real early.

I've had friends trapped in interstate evacuation "parking lots" and they wish they hadn't waited until the last minute to go...

I have to leave tomorrow to go to a work site in PA - don't know what I will get back to.

I really have bad feeling about this one...

14. Good luck and God bless...
My stomach is in a knot right along with ya, pal. After weathering three hurricanes last year here in Central F-L-A, I'm cringing at the thought of more storms this season. Take care, Boss.

15. Remember the words of comedian Ron White
It's not THAT the wind is blowin, it's WHAT the wind is blowin'.

Flying projectiles and all.

Good luck to you -- stay safe.

16. Boss....if you need to get out, I can put you guys up here in Abbeville
you can avoid the Interstate and come via Franklin and New Iberia. Of course, if it turns to the west, then I'll have to go. Keep us informed, OK?

17. Take care of yourself and your family
If it is starting to look dicey, don't be a hero, just get the hell out of there, OK. You and your family are irreplaceable, but the rest can be taken care of by the insurance.

I know that this completely sucks for you, but there is one silver lining to Dennis. I live in Missouri, and the rains that Dennis brings very well could break the drought we're experiencing. I know that isn't much consolation for you, but it will do wonders for us.

Take care, stay safe, and if things start looking bad, leave, please.

18. As part of your preparations
if you're planning to stay, purchase one of those hot/cold Sharper Image can cooler/warmer S1711 - worked great thru Ivan since you can use your car lighter connection.
Also charge your cell phones and either find or buy a non-electric phone. Hand sets are useless when the power goes.
Buy large igloos and fill them with water for bathroom/kitchen use.

Jamaica has never been hit by a July hurricane - we sit and wait - should reach here between 12noon and 1.00, but since it's now moving north west rather than WNW, the eye may go north of us. If it hits us, it will be Kingston, St THomas, Portland and parts of St Ann. Ah well, nature rules.
Unfortunately, it's almost cat 3 now so I would not like to be anywhere near Central Florida for this one.
