Chill out! Who cares if ESPN hired Rush Limpballs. There are bigger fish to fry. Besides they also pay Hunter S. Thompson to write a column, so There's no vast RW conspiracy here.

At least it's only one night a week, which is still one too many.

But look on the bright side ... when he bombs, maybe he'll do a Dennis Miller and switch party afiliations.

On the bright side maybe this means they got rid off Joe Thiesman...

15. Help yourself
You're welcome to use my letter or variations thereof in protesting to ESPN.com. (this is not a minor matter...this is a further attempt by the Wingnuts to break out of their niche and present a hipper, cooler presence to the populace)
Letter:

"In one false move you have just totally ruined the best pre-game show on earth. What the hell got into your heads that what fans want on Sunday morning is this bloviating, prevariacating, bombastic, partisan asshole? Even Fox has better sense than this. I'll be watching to see when this experiement goes the way of the Dennis UnFunny Miller experiment so I can return to the funhouse with Boomer and the gang. Until then, suck on it."

Thank you for your e-mail.

Rush is an excellent communicator and a big sports fan. He was hired
for those two reasons, not his politics. His role will be, not as an
analyst, but as someone who will provide the fans perspective and to
create discussion and debate.

Sincerely,

Disney - the gay issue, of course.

I loved asking the guys who were all for this if they were also going to quit watching ESPN as it is owned by Disney.

The room fell into silence.

So, your choice is now Fox Sports or ESPN. What a choice.

18. What does this say about the media?
They believe that there are large numbers of dittoheads out there that will be drawn to listen to this windbag's idiotic diatribes, or they are trying to create the illusion that what he has to say is representative of mainstream America.

It is the equivalent of having Goebbels as commentator of the 1936 Olympics, or Uday Hussein as the master of ceremonies at the World Cup Soccer matches.

ESPN must have taken a poll and determined that the IQ of its audience is hovering around 56.

I will be cancelling my ESPN cable package.

19. Disney Corp's hand has been creeping in
I don't know the Sportscenter anchor's name, but he's a relatively new guy who makes "jokes" with a severe right wing tilt. He's white, wears glasses, has a deadpan delivery and works a lot with Linda Cohn. First him, now Limbaugh ...

Stuart Scott seems like such a great guy. I know that's just his image and may not be a reflection on his true identity, but I can't imagine him laughing it up with Rush.

Ugh. I've already used ESPN's web contact form to send them a complaint - now I need to call them.

28. Racist in the Box? Some Rush 'gems'
search on limbaugh blacks quotes and you get the following:

"Why should Blacks be heard? They're 12% of the population.
Who the hell cares."

If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people--
I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely
no knowledge whatsoever to do--let the stupid and
unskilled Mexicans do that work."

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get
a liquor store and practice robberies"

As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back."

In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out."

When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's "Jeffersons" when he mentioned her.

Have you lost your effing minds? Rush Limbaugh is a right-wing fanatic who has alienated every Democrat in this country. If, as you say, he has 20 million listeners, he also has 120 million people out here who detest him with a white hot passion. My family and I will not be watching ESPN as long as you have Limbaugh on the air. We only hope he will meet Dennis Miller's fate quite soon. Seems the NFL has become a Republican enterprise.

if you all threaten ESPN with getting your local cable/satellite company to drop them from their programming packages.

Just sent this:

Well, you have managed to degrade football sportscasting even more than when ABC brought in Dennis Miller for Monday Night Football.

Regardless of his sports background, is a hate-mongering, intolerant rascist and a homophobe, and his presence can only dimish your reputation as a network. He certainly doesn't this fan.

Understand this, I was a loyal viewer of NFL Countdown almost from the beginning. You have just lost me.

BTW - just to show you that I am not exaggerating this mans lack of character, I have selected what may be one of Rush's least vulgar quotes (though not by much). This should be especially enlightening given the recent Baseball Hall of Fame flap:

"How is it that Tim Robbins is still walking free? Wasn't somebody supposed to pick him up in a black helicopter? Who was it that blew that assignment? Didn't the order go out for this guy to be behind bars a long time ago? How in the world is he still able to go to the National Press Club and say whatever he wants to say? Somebody has fouled up. Tim Robbins should have been silenced long ago"

On edit: man do I HATE typos! and missing words are even worse!

43. My Email to ESPN:
You HIRED Rush Limbaugh??

I am horrified to see that someone at ESPN had the lack of sense to hire Rush Limbaugh. I've seen him referred to as "a bloviating, prevaricating, bombastic, partisan asshole" and frankly I can't disagree. He's continually making remarks that are divisive attacks on union members, black leaders, and the poor.

Does ESPN REALLY want to hire a man who is responsible for the following quotes?

"Why should Blacks be heard? They're 12% of the population. Who the hell cares."

If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people--I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do--let the stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get
a liquor store and practice robberies"

As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back."

Neither my husband nor myself will be watching ESPN as long as you have Limbaugh on there.

I hear Comical Ali is out of work--maybe you could hire him instead.
