Mississippi moves to touch-screen voting
Beginning in 2006, most Mississippians will be casting ballots on new touch-screen voting machines.

The machines will replace a hodgepodge of methods, including lever machines, punch-card machines and scanner machines, used now in most Mississippi counties.

Secretary of State Eric Clark announced Wednesday the state has contracted with Diebold Election Systems Inc. to supply 5,164 new touch-screen machines at $15 million. "These voting machines will greatly improve the accuracy and integrity of every election in Mississippi," Clark said.

Yep. Diebold. That ought to "improve the accuracy and integrity" of the elections ...

4. From an article in that paper:
State makes plans for new voting machines

Clark trusts Diebold

A 2003 article in The New York Times cited two reports that raised questions about the reliability and safety of paper-free voting machines.

Rep. Rush D. Holt, D-N.J., is pushing legislation to require computerized voting systems to produce a voter verified paper ballot, according to the Nov. 9, 2003, news story.

"There has never been a proven security issue," Bear said. "There have been only allegations."

Clark said he hopes to use some election-reform funds to add printers to allow paper verification." I am certain the machines are secure, but the printout will make people feel more comfortable," Clark said.

5. and herein lies the problem . . .
despite many states switching to voting systems that provide for auditable paper trails, there will still be enough states using hackable touchscreen systems in 2006 and 2008 that BushCo will be able to rig the results of both national elections and enough state elections to maintain control of the House and Senate . . . count on it . . .
