"The recruiters' choice was unanimous: Jenna Bush"
Editorial in USA Today:

-snip-
"Last fall, Charles Moskos of Northwestern University, a prominent expert on military manpower, asked a group of recruiters what would most help them: tripling bonuses or enlisting presidential daughter Jenna Bush.

The recruiters' choice was unanimous: Jenna Bush.

That's not to suggest the president should coerce his daughters into military service. Nonetheless, it symbolizes the power of leadership by example. Bush's leadership on the recruiting shortfall needs to go well beyond one line in one speech."

1. Realistically speaking, she would endanger everyone around her.
Can you say kidnap and randsom?

2. Oh, I thought you meant like a loose cannon
...in a "friendly fire" sort of way. For example, "Jenna Bush is on the range! DUCK!"

4. They're right. They'd be great recruitment tools.
Course they wouldn't go to EyeRack because they'd be much too valuable to the recruiting effort back in the homeland. Sorta like back during Dubya Dubya Two.

7. Carefull, we might get what we really want...
If one of Bush' daughters do enlist, it would put the kibosh on the whole "no draft" argument: Neo-cons would simply point to Jenna (or Babs) and say, "See, she's doing it. Now it's YOUR kid's turn!" What will happen is that Pvt. Jenna (or Babs) will get some cushy desk job and be the center of attention at "war rallies" and PR campaigns to win support for Daddy's war. She will NEVER be put in "harm's way."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the British royal family already has it's (male) members serve in the military. Here is Prince Charles record:
1969.08.02 Preliminary Flying Badge
1971 RAF Cranwell flying instruction
1971.08.20 RAF wings
1971.09.15 Acting Sub-Lieutenant, Royal Naval College, Dartmouth
1973.05.01 Acting Lieutenant, Royal Navy
1973 Personal Aide-de-Camp to the Queen (ADC)
1976.12.15 end of active service
1977.01.01 Commander, Royal Navy
1978 parachute wings
1988.11.14 Captain, Royal Navy; Group Captain, Royal Air Force
1998.11.14 Rear Admiral, Royal Navy; Major General, Army; Air Vice Marshal, Royal Air Force

It could be that this PR firm hired by the Bushistas will suggest the enlistment of Jenna (or Babs). I mean, it's not like a 3-year commitment will ruin their careers! And it the going gets tough, well, Pvt. Jenna (or Babs) could just not show up for duty...

12. but one of the others actually flew
combat missions during the Falklands (Malvinas) campaign

I might remind you during that other real war, Lord Mountbatten actually took charge of the Pac Theater of Operations and FDR lost a son

14. Good one!
Tied for best comment in the thread with the notion of Bush providing leadership by example.

9. It also symbolizes the aristrocratic tendencies of the super-wealthy.
The Bush daughters' lack of service while recruitment numbers are down highlights the very real class divide in this country. College Republicans don't even flinch when they say they have no plans to serve. 'Why should I?', they say, 'I'm going to a university'.

Military service isn't even something worth considering, because they assume it's beneath them. That's for poor kids.

"While others failed to heed the call despite the fact that they campaigned on behalf of the president who is their father or uncle."

18. read this:
Marianne Pearl authored the book, "A Mighty Heart", about the murder of her husband, Daniel Pearl.

Following her return to the US from Pakistan, she described her meeting w/Laura Bush & Jenna: She (Jenna) grabs a chair and sits across from us and the conversation turns to the political apathy of American youth and the U.S. military strikes in Afghanistan. "I have always been against the bombings," Jenna said. Laura Bush casts a quick, motherly look at her daughter, watchful yet protective. pg. 217
surprised?
