A very puzzling question RE: Abu Ghraib photos
If you are a Republican lawmaker in DC, and you have seen the pictures in private already, so you know how horrible they are, why then would you conduct these hysterical press conferences featuring lemon chicken and two types of fruit? Does it make sense to present your extreme views to the public just before your position becomes totally discredited? Why are politicians so f***ed up?

2. That presupposes they give a damn that people were tortured
They don't.

But they'll still spew out disinformation.

3. So they can come back and tell their constituents that they were
...mislead by the troops who committed these terrible things. The troops knew they were to feed the prisoners lemon pepper chicken and fruit, but they, the troops disobeyed orders! Congress is clean on this....at least that's what the congress reps want us to believe.

5. ...Oh! Don't forget these torture victims also enjoy air conditioning!
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 10:32 AM by TwoSparkles
I heard Rush Limbaugh talking about the orange chicken and the fruit. He also said, "My God people! Our troops fighting these terrorists exist in worse conditions than the terrorists we have imprisoned at Gitmo! Gitmo is air conditioned and these prisoners eat orange chicken, vegetables and fruit. Do our soldiers get air conditioning???"

I guess it's ok to illegally detain people and torture them--as long as we do it with the temperature set between 68 and 72 degrees!!!

Just in my own time, place of choosing, being able to leave and not be assaulted while I'm there.

7. They're trying to kill the message before the message is made public.
But not even rush the pigboy is going to be able to dismiss the videos of little boys screaming as they're being raped while US troops film them as "fraternity games".

14. wasn't the fruit presentation about Gitmo
& the abuses were in Iraq? Not to say that they ridiculous presentation is excusable, but I guess the conditions *could* be different in the two prisons. Although as sickening as the reports of these pictures are, how anyone could respond to charges of abuse with '2 types of fruit' is beyond me.

15. The Abuses In Iraq Were A Direct Result Of Practices Developed At GITMO.
The abuse is systemic. That is the link.

To me the pics from one are just a tiny window on the entire systemic sickness. No camera getting into GITMO...

You see, Guantanamo is lemon chicken, while Abu Ghraib is just bad apples. Or something like that.

19. It does in Bushworld and in reality.
Edited on Fri Jul-01-05 06:41 AM by sfexpat2000
In Bushworld, if you've served one detainee lemon chicken, you've served them all.

In reality, Casey was sent to "gitmoize" Abu Ghraib because all those wrongfully detained people were freaking out at being held without being charged, without being able to contact their families, and without adequate living conditions, and about the prison coming under fire. The hostages and the torture victims didn't like it either.

So, some genius told Casey, then at Gitmo, to go fix Abu Ghraib.

Hunter's charade is an extension of his tirades against all those troop haters who were horrified by the Abu Ghraib images AND WHAT THEY MEANT.
