"Uniquely American, isn't it?"
Feb. 04, 2005
Exchange with the pResidunce regarding SS.

<SNIP>

MS. MORNIN: I'm fine.

THE PRESIDENT: Good. Okay, Mary, tell us about yourself.

MS. MORNIN: Okay, I'm a divorced, single mother with three grown, adult children. I have one child, Robbie, who is mentally challenged, and I have two daughters.

THE PRESIDENT: Fantastic...

<SNIP>

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, but nevertheless, there's a certain comfort to know that the promises made will be kept by the government.

MS. MORNIN: Yes.

THE PRESIDENT: And so thank you for asking that. You don't have to worry.

MS. MORNIN: That's good, because I work three jobs and I feel like I contribute.

THE PRESIDENT: You work three jobs?

MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.

THE PRESIDENT: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)

MS. MORNIN: Not much. Not much.

2. When he said 3 jobs, yes.
He wants us all to have to work that many jobs, or more, and drop dead if we don't spin the cogs fast enough.

3. He said "fantastic" because,
since she "couldn't keep a husband," and she is past child-bearing age, the only thing left for her is the corporate glue factory.

4. Total number of jobs Bush has ever worked at one time:
Zero. I did say "worked".

5. A freeper responds...
I am engaged in discussion with a freeper on another board.

Here is his reponse to me when I found shrub's "Uniquely American" reponse so offensive:

"Well, I know you don't see it, but Bush was paying her a compliment. Maybe sympathy would have been more prudent, but he was trying to comment on her industriousness(probably made my own word here but who cares I am only a lazy redneck)."

A compliment for having to work 3 jobs?
Fuck...I am speechless!

6. Exactly!
He sees nothing wrong with a person having to work 3 jobs? Please! When does she find time to take care of her children?

The minimum wage should be sufficient that a person can support themselves on one full-time job adequately. Nobody should be forced to have multiple jobs or work significant overtime just to survive. But in the neocon vision of America, working until you die of exhaustion is "Uniquely American".

"fantastic" when told by a stranger the personal information that she is a divorced mother of three, one of whom is "mentally challenged"?

"Fantastic" is reserved for "I'm going on vacation to Hawaii next week" or "I just won a $100 in the lottery" or "My kid got a college scholarship" or "It was benign" - you know, good stuff that people want to share.

Someone tells you how rough the road has been you say, "I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do to help?" And you mean it.

Just when you think chimp couldn't sink any lower, he does.
