Dance as well as they try, the Bushco's know that 9/11 doesn't sell as a sole source justification for the carnage in Iraq. It was always a long shot, but doable in the grief and anger after the 9/11 event. Afghanistan seems to have gone off the table. I thought it was interesting that the "defeat them there before they come here" meme was reiterated so clearly. Then, I realized, it's all they've got. The original "crusade" agenda. It was no slip of the tongue, when Bush used the word at the outset of the war, before his handlers made the "snip". It was the bottom line.

Overall, I thought his speech tonight was a poor, vague attempt at rallying support. He looked like he was going through the motions. Given his "base support" he could have done better - for them - but maybe they don't run the game so much anymore. Ha. Given the realities of the war in Iraq and public opinion, he probably didn't have much wiggle room. And wiggle room is Bush's MO.
