Can you stomach one last thread about *'s performance yesterday?
After reading all the editorials and news stories, it occurred to me that the last thing * wants is the UN's help in Iraq.

If he truly wanted their help, he would have least stepped up to the plate and acted like a man by apologizing for all the name calling and finger pointing he created last year.

The "irrelevant" UN.

Freedom fries. Freedom toast.

Old Europe.

* isn't about to yield or share power.

Iraq is his prize, and he's determined to hold on -- much to our disappointment. And the UN's as well.

1. I think you're right
They're attempting to now blame that mean ol' UN for not stepping up and helping us out. I doubt whether it will work, but who knows?

2. It was just.............
a CYA so he can blame the U.N. later when things turn REALLY ugly there, and the costs skyrocket. This is right out of the PNAC playbook.

3. Agreed
He wants to break the bank. He wants US taxpayers to pay for the destruction of Iraq and then he wants them to pay for the rebuilding of Iraq. He will not be held accountable or even consult with any other country, leader, entity because he is not interested in the Iraqi people or returning any meaningful power to them.

In that sense he hit a home run yesterday. Who in their right mind would want to help that clueless smirking wannabe cowboy? Who could go to their citizens and say helping Bush is the right thing to do?

Nobody.

4. ITA
If I'm not mistaken, polls show that most Americans want UN help in Iraq. Bush can now say, "I went and asked 'em. They just don't care about the Iraqi people like I do." Most people probably didn't see the whole speech, and will just figure it's France's fault again.

He doesn't lose control in Iraq, he doesn't piss off the base by "crawling" to the UN, but he makes it look to the majority like he made an effort.

5. Amen Sister!
But, like lst time he went to the UN, it was merely to be able to say "I went to the UN they refuse to support us."

I think the only ones who will buy it this time through are the Freepers and Ditto-heads, which seem to be dwindling in number (for some inexplicable reason haha).

I think you are right.

I would like to know what went on with Germany today.

Now if Congress gives * the money that will be the ultimate disgrace.

7. Maybe, but he gained nothing yesterday...
...his extreme RW supportrs are disgusted he even went to the UN and asked for their help, and to the rest of America it merely highlighted how ineffectual he is, and how angry the rest of the world still feels towards us for our preemptive invasion. No, he lost big time yesterday.

Here's the problem: George Bush has NEVER, ever had to say he's sorry. He's never had to apologize for anything he's ever done. He absolutely cannot bring himself to do it now, even with his Presidency going down the tubes.

9. yep, that speech was for FOX News viewers, not the UN
and I don't think many of those at the UN are fooled by this fool.

This should make a nice prelude to getting the US out of the UN in the near future

10. He doesn't want to do it, but his back is to the wall.
He knows that he NEEDS the UN, but he doesn't want to do what he would need to do to get its help. So he tries ineffectually. And that lands his back all that much more firmly against the wall.

Ain't it fun to watch?
