lessons from spoiled little boys: how i know what Bush will say tonite

I had a boss once, who needed a spanking real bad. His parents should have taken the initiative there. Somebody dropped the ball. He was a classic spoiled little boy who took responsibility for nothing and spent his life in a panic because he was always late, always empty-handed and always double dealing. He could talk a good game, which is why he had any business at all -- but one got the impression his magical skill was approaching only those he looked down upon and therefore he didn't have to try too hard because the potential client wasn't "really" worth the effort. He was unable to just take a job, hire vendors, finish the job and move on. Every interaction was marked by lies, hissy fits, and make-goods.

Spoiled little boys grow into spoiled little men who spend way too much time having to explain themselves. When called to task you might hear the faraway voice of the spoiled little boy dramatically proclaiming, "it's HARD work." During his Social Security road show, Bush was often quoted as saying, "this is what leaders do." Usually followed by the tautological, "they lead." Only spoiled little men need to justify themselves. Only liars need to remind themselves of their identity.

So what do I expect to hear tonight?

Whenever things got "knee-deep in shit" with the spoiled boss, you could bet the client was getting ready to hear all about how some mysterious force was sabotaging the project. The printer was to blame. The bindery was to blame. The ink was to blame. But he was going to "take of it," scoring a double victory once the project was FINALLY delivered.

The experienced scapegoater knows it's not enough to just put blame. You have to get the client "on your side" by demonizing the "mysterious force" thereby giving the client a place to put their frustration.

So, you want to know why the war isn't won yet? Ask Rove. He floated the new meme last week. "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9-11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

It's those damn indictment- and therapy-loving liberals!

Yes, yes, YES!!!

The ONLY good thing about having Air America Radio in Columbus is that the Clear Channel station that carries it decided to go with CNN radio for their news. CNN was oh-so-cleverly trying to include the meme of how liberals were the cause of all of our problems in Iraq, so I knew what the thrust of the speech would be. Also, I know that we will probably have to spend the next three friggin months to tease that lie away from the American people. Face it, people still WANT to belive in his lies and are looking for an excuse to do so. Lies that you WANT to belive are very powerful, and Rove knows it.

This speech will be about us...the anti-war crowd. Bush won't mention us by name; that is a job better suited for his mouthpieces, but he WILL say that if the public turns against the war, we will lose. As if his incompetency, mishandling, lies, and human denigrations had nothing to do with it.

As far as the right are concerned, we are traitors. We lost Viet Nam for them, and now we are losing Iraq. What scares me the most is that if this mssage has a chance to fester, there will be violence against war protestors and a possible legal thrust to make dissent illegal or "detainable".

Don't believe me? I'm used to it, and I'm used to being proven right, eventually. That is the real tragedy behind this...we act surprised when Bush does EXACTLY what we fear the most.

He'll frame it with those bullshit parameters -- as if freedom had anything to do with Halliburton's kickbacks.

I think its going to be a scapegoating, plus a speech to try and stir up the morale/support of the war, cause a lot of americans are starting to see that the situation in Iraq isnt what the WH says it is. WH says its fine, last throes, media news=nothing but car bombs, death, suicide bombers. Hmm, how can the WH dismiss what the media shows? Ha, the its the liberals fault, of course! I wonder if there is going to be any Q/A in his speech tonight, or if its just going to be "Kick ass, take no names, its liberals that hate you" shit...It would be interesting if soem of the soldiers start asking some questions...ha, but probably not, its probably just a "Speech and Run"...

this guy i worked for could just wear you out just having to be in the same room with him. everything was a bitch. he couldn't use the fax machine without it becoming a huge conspiracy of technology aligned against all that was good in the world. he was constantly up in arms about some difficulty with his laptop -- or the printer -- or his voice mail -- the cell phone --- ugh!
