3. Even more vile stuff quoted at William Greider's blog
<snip>

On C-Span radio the other morning, I heard a Vietnam combat veteran earnestly worrying that our troops in Iraq might be "hand-cuffed." He had heard a rumor about rubber bullets that upset him. Another caller made the point more angrily "For every American who gets killed, they should take 20 Iraquians (his term) and hang them from lamp posts." This, he explained, is how the Klingons from Star Trek would handle it.

Then I got an email from a right-wing friend, a learned man with a Ph.D. in history: "We need a tough-minded Patton or MacArthur in full dress uniform...Follow the Roman rule: haul those people off in slavery and burn down the country...For every ten Americans slaughtered, burn down whole villages."

<snip>

7. That Ph.D in history is an idiot...

Did he go to school on the George W. Bush plan?

Both Patton and MacArthur were very pragmatic and concillatory when they were tasked with Occupation administration. MacArthur especially. His administration of Japan after World War II was exemplary and he deserves a lot of the credit for getting that country back on its feet after being practically annihilated during the war.

I'm surprised a "Ph.D in history" would have to be tolk this by someone like me, who merely has a simple BA in Military History.

It's also how the NAZIs from Germany would handle it.

They said we were going to war because Iraq had WMD. When this claim did not pan out, they claimed that we were going to war because Saddam was linked to Al Qada. When this claim turned out to be bogus, they said we were going to Iraq to liberate them. Now they want to off entire villages?

4. Worked great in Vietnam
Yeah, that's the ticket...let's destroy this "liberated" country we've conquered.

That will start the dancing in the streets, then they'll love us and give us all their oil.

These people are brilliant tacticians....why couldn't some DUers think of that strategy.

:shrug:

5. Whoa, we're up to that already?
Iraq really is Vietnam at internet speed. Okay, we're up to "had to destroy the village in order to save it." In the next month, we should have our analog to the My Lai massacre (who gets to be the Colin Powell this time?), the napalm attack that leaves naked children running down the road, and by about this time next month, whatever will serve as the Tet Offensive. The Ramadan backlash or something? Anybody know what Muslim holidays are observed in August?

8. I heard something about
an anniversary, happenning this week, of Saddam's rise to power. They (*) setting the stage to pin any attacks on US troops on "Saddam loyalists" for the next few weeks.

Let me say, I am absolutely not a *Bush loyalist, but I would personally defend my home and country form any invading force.

13. What did you expect from a fascist pig?
Here's how the rightwing would again handle partisans!

Aktion Rumsfielt???????????

Lidice and Lezaky

The brutal reprisals for the assassination 60 years ago of the Nazi governor of Bohemia and Moravia - Reinhardt Heydrich - are well known. Two villages - Lidice and Lezaky - were razed to the ground, their inhabitants shot or sent to concentration camps. But almost unknown is the fact that 1,000 Jews from the town of Kolin were rounded up and transported to the camps, never to be seen again. A handful were spared that "special" transport, among them the writer Hana Greenfield, who was later sent to Terezin, Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen. This weekend she will join a group of 40 Jews from six congregations around the world, who will gather in Kolin to remember the dead.

JUNE 10, 1944
SS UNIT MASSACRES VILLAGERS IN FRANCE

The entire population of Oradour-sur-Glane, a small French village in southern France, is massacred by an SS unit. More than 600 men, women, and children are forced into the village church, which is then set ablaze. There are no survivors. Following the Allied landings in Normandy, France, there was an increase in anti-German partisan activity in occupied France. The massacre of men, women, and children in Oradour-sur-Glane was undertaken ostensibly in retaliation for such partisan activity.

He goes fishing at the Maine compound. He goes golfing. Heck, he even clears brush at his home in Hell On Earth, Texas!
