Wow, I think America is FINALLY waking up! - Rove's comments
After almost 4 yrs of being caught in a trance-state, it looks like more and more Americans are finally waking up, begininng to feel something besides fear again, and stand up for ourselves.

From a DailyKos diary by Hunter:
The White House Attack on Dissent

Mahablog:
"I'd like to ask Karl and his puppies to stand anywhere in the vincinity of Ground Zero and repeat Karl's fatuous, lying remarks to a crowd of New Yorkers.

Whole lotta liberals in New York. Whole lotta those liberal New Yorkers lost someone in the towers. Whole lotta liberal New Yorkers who lost someone in the towers might want to break Karl's jaw today. Karl would be well advised to keep his sorry ass out of New York from now on."

---

Some people are misunderstanding the nature of the backlash against Karl Rove and his latest attack against fellow Americans. There's nothing planned about it. It is real, and it is huge. Karl Rove, widely described as the most corrupting, immoral, "pathological" political hack in a nation awash in immoral political hacks, has taken it upon himself to attack a broad and deeply patriotic swath of Americans, including troops in the field, New Yorkers who lost loved ones in the towers, and anyone else who might actually have issues with the incompetent manner in which George W. Bush has cowboyed around the world roundly making a mess of the war on terror.

<snip>

Karl Rove's comments aren't a distraction from the Downing Street Memos, from Bolton, from Plame, and from the latest failures in Iraq. Rove's comments are the counterattack against anyone who dares bring those things up. They're part and parcel of an Administration that, only six months into this term, is in deep trouble, on all these fronts and others, and is attempting to stifle dissent. Well, we're not going to put up with that crap. We're not.

55. Probably nothing to break--it would be like punching a giant
amoeba, or a bowl of jelly. He would just divide into two. Better to shake some salt on him. That'll do the trick.

4. About bloody time!
People (on our side) are always saying "What is it going to take for America to WAKE UP?" And the things that finally get reactions, the things that do wake us up, are so outrageous, so wrong, it amazes me the levels that people must stoop to get "we the people" to stop ignoring what is going on. SO many things, so many people hurt and upset over such a vast number of horrors, lies, and atrocities, it's saddening. It takes THIS, all of this, to unite our country? Well, whatever it takes I suppose. At least we are finally realizing that even at opposite ends of the political spectrum (Reps vs Dems), we're still on the same side. (Unless you ask our governing body....)

38. I respectfully disagree.
I think that the voters are beginning to care more and more. Did you see Lori Van Auken on Hardball tonight? She's a 9/11 widow. She said that Rove is just plain wrong in his comments. These people who were traumatized the most by 9/11 are the people that he hurt the most.

Rove jumped the shark on this one.

51. I just read on Truthout.org
that pataki called Hillary a "hypocrite" because she didn't ask Durbin to "apologize"..

"Mr. Pataki, who refused to criticize Mr. Rove, responded angrily, taking direct aim at Mrs. Clinton, who has maintained a wary truce with him since taking office. "I think it's a little hypocritical for Senator Clinton to call on me to repudiate a political figure's comments when she never asked Senator Durbin to repudiate his comments," he said."

Stupid pataki..Durbin was speaking the truth..rove was LYING as usual. pataki's not known for being the sharpest tool in the shed.

58. Pataki has this grandiose image of himself....
as Presidential material. New Yorkers hate his ass at this point, Eliot Spitzer is going to be our next Governor. Pataki thinks that as Governor of New York he can ride 9/11 all the way to the White House. He's just another of the GOP slime that want to capitalize on someone else's tragedy.
He is badly mistaken. He won't win one primary, then he'll be sent home with his greasy tail between his legs. He's a jackass of the first degree, just like our current pretzlenit. He believes he loved and adored by all when in reality, he's a pariah.

And bloomberg has hitched himself to the Ghoultrain..I hope New York City votes him OUT! :kick:

54. I disagree
My Republican BIL told me yesterday that Bush should be impeached. He voted for him twice. This kind of rhetoric doesn't appeal to voters, because they KNOW it's a lie! Eg, we disagree on politics, but he knows that his family and friends who are Democrats would die for their country. Karl Rove does not speak for him.

My neighbor died on 9/11 and a woman I know lost her pregnant daughter that day. I can't begin to describe the anger she and her family have towards Karl Rove. She is a Democrat.

Last week my BIL heard about the DSM. He was outraged that he had seen nothing about it on the news. Today, he heard about Karl Rove's insane statement and he was angry.

These are voters, the anger is intense at Karl Rove. I went to the funeral of a neighbor, a man who was a real Democrat. He served in two wars, was a volunteer fireman all his life. He was buried with honors at Calverton National Cemetary.

He has a very big family and countless friends, fellow fireman all who remember what a patriotic liberal Democrat he was who was devasted by 9/11 and would have gone after the terrorists, himself, personally.

Karl Rove badly insulted him, his family, friends and fellow firemen and millions of other good, decent Americans like him.

Voters DO care what Karl Rove said, and the anger will grow, imo, as his words are repeated throughout the week ~

I would like to invite Rove to NY to meet with some of the people here that he insulted. Those of us online are used to Rove/Limbaugh troll behavior, trashing liberals, Democrats etc. But most Americans heard it for the first time last night! They definitely DO care!! He better apologize, but quitting would be better, and then prosecution.

What happened to the Valerie Plame case??

i object to posting of home addresses (or personal phone numbers). We howled like banchees when Dobson published Michael Moore's personal information. Rove evidently has children (didn't know that) and they may at some future date prove to be the spawn of Satan but right now they are presumably innocent children and do not deserve this kind of treatment.

Karl Rove on Maple Street (Keith Olbermann)

NEW YORK — In the ravings of Karl Rove against liberals (and the ravings of liberals against Karl Rove), I am reminded of yet another in my endless supply of pop culture references: The Twilight Zone episode called "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street."

As political allegory, it was pretty simple, but also very effective.

Something, or someone, starts screwing with the lights and the electricity on an ordinary suburban street. Within minutes, the residents have concluded that aliens from outer space have invaded. As alliances and rivalries dissolve and re-form with incredible swiftness, these neighbors accuse each other of collusion with the invaders. One of them finally starts shooting. The director pulls back to a nearby hill, where sit two real aliens, one of whom sagely reminds the other that there's no need to actually attack any of these stupid humans — you can just scare them a little bit and then wait for them to tear themselves apart.

Think of how we responded — politically — to 9/11. First there was overwhelming non-partisanship. Years of deteriorating relations between the parties vanished; were even apologized for. And within three years the Republicans were insisting that a Democratic presidential victory would mean more terrorist attacks. This year our "leaders" started the Nazi references — Senator Byrd first, Senator Santorum next, most recently Senator Durbin.........

53. Unfortunately, yes they would
>the little punks wouldn't dare say that to the woman's face.<

They brag about "FReeping" people like Sarah Brady. They also harassed a 12-year-old girl who wrote an essay about the American flag they didn't approve of a couple of years back; her parents' names, house address, telephone number, and a map to their house was printed on the website. That information remained on their website for several hours despite Robinson's assertion to me via e-mail that he would remove it. The FBI received all copies of correspondence, the link, and all text contained in it.

I'm sure these armchair commandos can't wait to bash Kristin Breitweiser. I'm sure it gets them all warm inside to think about what nasty thing they can say to her -- after all, her husband's too dead to go after any of them. Somehow, though, I'm thinking the rest of the Jersey Girls (and the rest of us,) got her back.

19. Another gem from a blogger:
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/2005/06/why-conservatives-are-useless.html

Well, birdman, the 42nd ID is now in Iraq. A division largely made up of New Yorkers. If you've noticed John Kerry won New York handily. One could extrapolate (big word, I know, but it means conclude from facts) that many of those same Guardsmen were and are Democrats. That they vote for Democrats and that many might well be liberals serving their country. What the gutless turd Rove said is that these people didn't exist and only conservatives wanted to stop Osama.

As a New York, I find this the equvilient of blood libel. (You know, the lie that the Jews used Christian babies blood for matzoh). No one asked what party 343 firemen belonged to when they died, or the 34 policemen. No one asked what party nine members of the 69th Regiment, New York City's own infantry regiment with a lineage going back to WW I, were when they were killed in Iraq, two of whom were immigrants, one a Pakistani muslim. No one asked and no one cared.

To say that New Yorkers, who are 5-1 Democrats, are shirking from the service of their country is an insult to them and their service. No one asked for party enrollment when they took their oath and it is wrong to suggest that it matters now. Many New Yorkers, and Califonians as well, have died in the service of their country in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But, to you. birdman, I think it makes you feel all big and manly to say that. After all, you're not going to Iraq. You're not burying anyone killed there. So why should care if they're defamed by the President's aide? It doesn't effect anyone you know. right?

Let me explain something birdman: I smelled the dead in my windows for a week after 9/11. While you sat back and worried about some Sikh blowing up your mall, every time I took a breath, burning flesh and paper filled my nose. Every day, for a year, I opened the paper to read about yet another funeral. On nice, sunny days, I get reminded of 9/11.

Then, I get to read about how Congress wants to pull $125m in aid for Ground Zero workers.

So don't fucking lecture me about defending the people who protect my city. You don't drive by the firehouse memorials on every goddamn firehouse in the city. You don't see the stories about fucked up families left behind. You live in a fantasy world where big strong men kill the brown people and make you feel like a man. We know what they did for us far better than you ever will, no matter how much you pretend to understand. You don't. And you never will and you never want to.

I don't live in New York City..I've never been..It's these kind of people that make me feel proud to be American. But I also feel kind of bad bc I haven't done a whole lot to help either. Our troops in Iraq shouldn't have to pay their own way just to save their own asses. On Father's Day of all days..this father had to pay $600 worth of equipment to make sure his son was fully equipped for his stay there.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x1561689

I'm all for what he did but it shouldn't have been needed. Anyways, I hope to do my part sometime in the next couple of weeks and get a simple site going..it'd be a PayPal donation site with some links of stories like the one above and maybe a couple other things..not sure what tho.

on 9/11. I can't say any more, it's too much.

If you still doubt MIHOP or LIHOP on 9/11, listen to the historic hour and twenty minute Madison lecture of David Ray Griffin as a starting point. Links to online video and audio and other info in this thread:

30. boy, you said it
And, anyone who believes Rove and the neocon's story of what happened on 9/11 must be really, really gullible.

Now that more of their lies have surfaced, maybe more people in the country will wake up to the mother of all lies: 9/11.

David Ray Griffin's books and lectures are a great place to start. See my 9/11 page for links.

45. It's like the stories you hear
occasionally of a guy who sets fire to a house so that he can go in and rescue a few people and be treated like a hero (when all along he was the cause of the problem in the first place).

49. Yes - but in this case, the people were killed and then thousands more
were killed and maimed and traumatized in a misdirected vengeance, all for political gain.

28. If only...
If only as many people had gotten this angry just one year earlier. It would've been even harder for them to steal the election.

I live in the center of Indiana, so I hear a lot of conservative bullshit from everyone around me. Nice to be somewhere where the people have brains in their heads.

34. What makes you think this is important?
So another blogger stated his opinion. Big deal. Is Rove's house still standing? Are his children getting sneered at when they exit their limo for their school? Is his wife refused salon appointments because they don't want her or the protesters that follow her near their establishment? Most important, is George Bush still President?

Wake me up when something really happens.

35. Agreed. Call me when Rupert Murdoch is offended.
I'm sorry, but the levers of control are firmly in the hands of Karl Rove and his compatriot orcs. He did this for a calculated reason. He does nothing unless there is a calculated reason. Either it was to firm up the base in light of an impending Supreme Court appointment, or to begin the process of further "adventures" in the Middle East (Syria?) He did this to make himself a lightning rod. Something is coming.

I dunno, but THAT guy's reaction would probably be, get away, firebomb the meeting place, and kill anyone, anywhere, whose name or surname began with the same letter of anybody in the audience.

That was the turning point from what I recall and the first time he realised that he was unpopular.

Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorites. I used to quote poetry. Of course, I used to get laid, too, but not much in my 50s now. Oh well, the play's the thing.

48. Karl Rove likes to call Lee Atwater his mentor. Well, if he really
would like to follow Atwater all the way, maybe he should begin apologizing to all the people he has slimed in his life.
When Lee Atwater was dying of cancer, he asked forgiveness from those he viciously attacked while calling himself a Christian.
Is this the one lesson Rove refuses to consider? Apparently.

50. Even Savage and his callers were ranting against Bush tonight
Be it about not paying respect to fallen marines.

He then continued to blame the death of the three boys in New Jersey on the UCLA, the quagmire in Iraq on Ted Kennedy, the war on terror in general on gays and I'm not sure who he blamed for the dead marines, but women should not serve in the army, law enforcement or firefighting brigades.

Oh...and Asians can't be firefighters either.

I don't normally catch his show. What a lunatic. lol

But anyway, Bush was spineless, immoral and ummm...wanting it both ways (whatever that was supposed to mean).

All this during my 20 minute ride home.

:LMAO:

Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 11:24 PM by Fridays Child
...when he tried to say that Rove's comment was directed at the extremists at moveon.org, and the fact that Democrats were so upset by the comment only proves their close affiliation with that group.

By the way, little Danny, if moveon.org is a fringe group, the fringe is bigger than the middle. But you already knew that, didn't you?

59. I wouldn't draw any conclusions...
about the American public "waking up" just from a few posts at DailyKos. If it was freerepublic, that might be a different story.
I DO think that a segment of the public is slowly realizing that bush isn't the strong, never wrong, steadfast, world leader he portrays himself to be, but there are still far too many Americans that are intellectually lazy enough to buy what he's selling. We'll NEVER convince these die hard morons that their leader is a total waste of space on the planet. They'll adore him until the bitter end, and that end WILL come sooner, rather than later.

61. from waking up to actually doing something
is a long, long distance.

In any event, the computer thefts of elections 2006 and 2008 have already taken place and there's nothing anyone can do about them.

The neo-cons have destroyed America and WW3 (The Rapture) has already begun.

77. Rove did NOT take this upon himself!
This is not Karl Rove speaking for himself. This is Karl Rove speaking for the White House. I'm on the White House press office distribution list, and the text of Rove's speech was sent out to that list at 10:22 AM Thursday morning. You can read the full text at the end of this post.

Make no mistake: Rove's speech was vetted by the White House, it was distributed by the White House and it represents the official views of the White House. They're George W. Bush's words as much as Rove's, and he should be held equally responsible.

If America, the narcoleptic half of America, is waking up, why has it taken so long?! It's not as if we Liberals--or anyone willing to take a look at what's been happening to our country--haven't been shouting from the rooftops the corruption, incompetence and shear jingoistic audacity of these madmen and women. IT"S ABOUT F@(&!^G TIME!
