Okay, I wanna know: WHAT HAPPENED TO DURBIN?
I've read that he was threatened, the implication being by someone on the right, of course. I saw no documentary support for that. Was it rumor or just speculation?

I've read that Mayor Daley got to him, but no documentary support for that. Was it rumor or just speculation?

The clip I keep seeing makes it look like people who were affected (directly or indirectly or perhaps just emotionally) by the Holocaust were his most influential critics, perhaps.

I want to know what the story is. I don't mind hearing speculation, but please label it that.

This is important, because some way, somehow, the right shut him down and made him grovel. They even boasted about it and threatened Pelosi and Dean in the process:

Durbin Caves--Repukies say it's only the beginning
the reporter said something like the repubs are now going to go after nancy pelosi and howard dean

We need to know what's happening. We are being bullied and threatened and intimidated at more and more opportunities. I keep sensing the world closing in on us, OUR world -- the one in which we have the freedom to say what is true -- getting smaller day by day.

What's the story with Durbin?

Anybody?

2. don't believe everything you read
Durbin wasn't threatened.

If you have followed Dick Durbin's career, I think you'll see that his apology is more his style than his original comment was.

3. in his statement,
"some have been deeply offended, and for that i am sorry"
IMO he was referring to the victims of the camps etc.

" "I think it's a disgrace to say that any man or woman in the military act like that," Daley said."
