RONALD W. REAGAN.......THE GREATEST AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you cringe, as I do, when you read the subject of this post then you should go to the Discovery Channel site and vote for someone other than RWR. I voted --- and will continue to vote---for Benjamin Franklin. I feel he is the Greatest American. Now Lincoln or Washington could arguably be the greatest President. MLK was a great man and leader but others, I feel, are comparable. Medgar Evers, for one.

I think FDR should have been in the top five and not RWR. Reagan's presidency has been the subject of many "historical fairy tales". He was poison for the poor and downtrodden. He plunged our country into debt and was no real moral or intellectual force. You know the rest.

Why bother to vote, you ask? Isn't this "Greatest American" thing a sham and a silly thing? Yes. But great things are accomplished a little at a time. It is important to deny the Right Wing Nuts this small victory. Keep Reagan off the number one spot. Progressives are willing to pick their battles and let things slide. We lose little battles and hope to win the big War. The Right Wing has gotten in to power partly by going all out for ALL of the battles.

CALL TO ARMS (BALLOTS)! DU rise up and pour thousands of votes into this chintzy contest to deny RWR any acclaim. He doesn't deserve it. Deny the wing nuts the right to gloat! They don't deserve it. You know they are voting in masses! Attack! Du'ers go forth!

http://tv.channel.aol.com/greatestamerican

We MUST be victorious!

After you vote reply and show the world! I expect a thread of THOUSANDS! If we will do it for this, we will do it for what counts later on. Good practice, eh? Peace.

21. The discovery channel is now " the hot rod" channel "house fixit channel"
"Expand your horizons with powerful and insightful news, and information
documentaries from the worlds of science, nature, medicine and outdoor adventure."

That is their logo explaining their channel

tonight's programs:

American Chopper
American Hotrod
Monster Garage
Biker Build off

tomorrow: almost the same

at one time they did something decent;

but it is no longer science, nature, medicine and outdoor adventure.

39. That's right
We went premium HD and now get six hundred thousand channels of stuff I don't care about, but the educational channels - when I can hunt them down - are really terrific.

Just another way of picking the pockets of Americans who want a bit more from TV than "Britney and Kevin."

I can't even imagine how PBS is going to look a year from now.

I love that show. Not sure why - I'm a 49-year-old city girl who has never even been on a motorcycle. I guess I just watch for the "soap-opera" aspects of the show. All the father-son dynamics, arguments, etc. I do agree about the others though. Waste of time.

24. Well, I watched last night and was glad that GWB wasn't in the top
five. I am a "stay at home" dad because I have been out of work for almost a year. I see where you are coming from on your "waste of time" comment, but I think we lefties suffer from that syndrome to a fatal degree. Anything to put a cut into the GOP body politic, I say. Death of a 1,000 cuts not a 1,000 point of light scenario.

We can vote with ease and make a statement. Why give the right the satisfaction of parading Reagan again for one second? I hope you will vote even though in the great cosmic scheme of things it is trivial. It might be more important than you think, though. The whole butterfly effect, etc.......

40. I wish I agreed with you,
but when you consider what happened with Conyer's petition - nothing - you really do have to be realistic about things. It's a TV show, and it's meaningless.

Doing, instead of watching, is the act that will cause the butterfly to flutter her wings and thereby set in motion the events that will being change.

I hope.

FDR, Jefferson and Kennedy were all more significant.

Kennedy just for having the courage to face down LeMay and the other hawks who wanted to nuke Cuba. That is one of the most underrated, important and courageous acts in the history of the Republic.

I'm just kidding.

Ok, maybe I'm not. Lance inspired me to get my obese, diabetic ass off the chair, get on a bike and start DOING something about my health besides popping pills and shopping online for electric scooters and prosthetic legs.

All Ronald Reagan did was give me this constant reminder of himself in the guise of a bum ankle that sometimes hurts for no damn reason, 20 years after I tried to kick a field goal with the TV after hearing him say "well, lemme ask you...Are you better off NOW than you were 4 years ago?"

2000 years from now, Reaganism will be a Religion, not a political movement.

is no way everyone in the country will rally around one person. People who don't like Reagan will split their votes among the other 4 contestants and all Freepers and other idiots will vote for Reagan (there are a lot of people i know who aren't political but they think he was the greatest president ever just b/c they've been told so by conservative high school teachers and other media outlets.) My h.s. government teacher told us that Reagan was the greatest pres. ever, and unfortunately most people prob. believed him.
