Senator Durbin's Response

Friday, June 17, 2005

“More than 1700 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq and our country’s standing in the world community has been badly damaged by the prison abuses at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo. My statement in the Senate was critical of the policies of this Administration which add to the risk our soldiers face.”

“I will continue to speak out when I disagree with this Administration.”

“I have learned from my statement that historical parallels can be misused and misunderstood. I sincerely regret if what I said caused anyone to misunderstand my true feelings: our soldiers around the world and their families at home deserve our respect, admiration and total support.”

2. I wish he hadn't backed down.
torture regimes almost always start quietly and a little at a time.

They weren't rounding up Jews and Gypsies and Gays and Catholic priests on day one . . . first they started with political dissidents.

If we fail to draw comparisons where comparisons are due, we leave the door open for it to happen again.

The fact of the matter is, we openly condone torture.

6. He needs our support. He is getting hammered by the MSM
I have seen many reports on him and how they are still trying to use him to divert away from the real issues. He is their sacrificial lamb so to speak....

7. Harry Reid did
on the same day Warner, Sessions and Grassley (?was it) went after Durbin on the Senate floor. Thursday, I believe. Harry Reid got on the floor and defended Durbin. He said it was nothing but a "smoke and mirror" tactic to take attention away from all the repukes (my word) have done wrong. (paraphrased)

We bombarded Durbin's office with emails and phone calls on Thursday and Friday. HE SHOULD NEVER HAVE APOLOGIZED! Did Santorum apologize for comparing DEMOCRATS to NAZIS???? Fuck NO he didn't. I'm so fucking pissed off right now. The damn repukes whine...the fucking Democrats CAVE! FUCK!

GET A FUCKING BACKBONE, DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!!! STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU SAY! STOP BEING FUCKING WIMPS!

NOW, I have to write ANOTHER email to Durbin and bitch him out for apologizing. Shit. I'm so tired of this gutless crap.

8. Thank you, I have seen reports on CNN and MSNBC and they
are not letting this one go, they are going to milk it for all it is worth. I am glad Reid stood up but have you heard of any of them making a formal statement to the press or MSM? I have not and would like to see them support him in this....

11. They're all damn WIMPS. They will never stand up
for what's right. THIS shows me that. If DURBIN caves...it's because it's what the "party" wanted. Total BULLSHIT. He's my Senator and I love him to death, but this REALLY, REALLY, REALLY pisses me off. He should never have apologized. I even emailed him the Santorum Democrat/Nazi comparison quote and encouraged him to read it on the Senate floor. OBVIOUSLY, he won't be doing that.

9. Durbin is great when he says what everyone wants him to say
He stands alone now, everyone is mad at him cause he made the statement above?

At least he had more guts to say it in the first place than most of the mousy leaders we have. Don't get mad because he apologized, which he never apologized for making the comparison, just if he offended anyone.

Stand behind him for being strong enough to make the statement in the first place. Don't be so fast to criticize him, he is on our side.....

10. I just called his Chicago office and told the girl
that no matter what is said in the corporate media or by the Puke whiners Senator Durbin doesn't need to apologize for anything. His statement was deliberately misrepresented by both of the above. I also told her that he's doing a terrific job for the people of Illinois and the entire nation as well.

16. He should be on the Senate floor soon. We'll see what he says.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 10:21 AM by in_cog_ni_to
If he reads the Santorum quote on the Senate floor, I will forgive him for apologizing to the people the REPUKES "think" he hurt (which is complete bullshit). If he stands firm on his statement, all be be forgiven by me. I will wait to send my email. I still don't think he should have said what he said. He's letting the repukes frame the debate...AGAIN.

17. You are lucky to at least have a Democratic Senator
Both mine are republicans, both Cheerleaders on the Bush squad, so I am essentially supporting other Democratic Senators. I am glad that Sen Durbin said he would continue to point out these problems to the administration, that shows he is not backing down. Support him, sometimes they don't make the right decisions or say the right things, but they are on our side and we need to give 100% support to one of our own....

15. How insane is it that we live in a country where people are attacked
for saying what they think. Democrats should not be apologizing for saying what they think. The Republican Wurlitzer is Nazi-like in its attempts to squash dissent and debate. We really are living in a fascist country when they can say shit like this:

Limbaugh: "If we get hit again" by terrorists, blame
Leahy, Biden, Durbin, Boxer, Kennedy, Reid, Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, and Amnesty International"

while people like Durbin are ground up into the propaganda Wurlitzer like human mincemeat.

If we get hit by terrorists again, I'm blaming Dick, George, Rummy, Wolfie, Condi, Gonzales and Ashcroft, Rush Limpball, Fux nitworks... and the entire neoCon junta and every Republican that voted for them. After all, aren't they the ones in power? Aren't they the ones with the MANDATE? Wasn't all of this their f*in idea?

The Truth is upsetting the shit out of the Republicans.
