I sent a short email to Knight-Ridder thanking them for their coverage a few hours ago. I already got a response! :bounce:

I'll send many more thank you emails. I've only gotten one response to my complaint ones.

here's the response and my email:

You're welcome. We posted a new story on the topic just today to www.krwashington.com. It also appears on our Intelligence page.

Have a good weekend --

My email:

Subject: Downing Street Memo Thank you

Thank you for your accurate reporting on the Downing Street (Memo) Minutes. I've noticed that your reporting is factual, timely and accurate. I've begun to look for your stories on the Iraq war and the lead up to it. Please continue your good work.

Sincerely,

4. Absolutely praise them when they do their jobs!

(which isn't often enough these days but that's beside the point here).

AND when they kiss too much bu$hButt - let them know that too - HOWEVER, always be cordial even if you disagree with their reporting or coverage.

If you're nasty and scathing, they'll just delete the message or toss the letter in the garbage. Stick to facts and be professional when you write to complain about their reporting or coverage.

If you gotta seethe and rant and stuff do it here at DU or with family or friends or on the phone, but not at the media 'cause it doesn't pay to get nasty with them. They just tune that out.

Just my .02. I've 'learned' this myself writing letters to them & calling them.

5. Now, this I like.
I sometimes become morose at all the bashing media threads (and I agree with most of them) because that's all I ever wanted to be and was for 12 years.

See, now, there are many reporters who appreciate feedback and nice tidings. I know I always did.
