Personal anecdotes
Just thought I'd share some encouraging news.

My (future) father-in-law voted for Ralph Nader in 2000, although he's not a Green Party member. He is SO disgusted with both Shrub and Nader that he's backing whoever wins the Democratic nomination. (He's currently backing Kucinich; yes, my (future) father-in-law is a major lefty.)

My (future) brother-in-law has NEVER voted in any political contest. He is SO disgusted with Shrub that he went out last week and registered Democratic so he can vote in both the primary and the general election...against Shrub, of course.

My sister voted for Shrub in 2000. She's fairly right-of-center; I think she's a registered Repug (I'm a little afraid to ask). She is SO disgusted with Shrub that she's backing Dean, but will absolutely NOT vote for Shrub again.

My mom's husband is a die-hard Repug. He voted for Shrub in 2000 (and I think he voted for Dole in 1996 and Bush 1 in 1992). He is SO disgusted with Shrub that he intends to vote for 'anyone but' Shrub in 2004.

All of these folks live in red states (I live in the bluest of blue: CA).

That's four votes in my immediate family for the Democratic nominee in 2004 - 4 votes that went for Shrub or Nader in 2000.

I'm cautiously optimistic about our changes in 2004.

1. That's why this "sheeple" thing is BS
People who have been even paying the smallest amount of attention have plenty reason to be disgusted with Bush, and it all builds up. He hasn't made anybody happy except the rich, and some of those aren't too thrilled either, as we're discovering.

5. Agree wholeheartedly about the "sheeple" thing
The American people are too smart AND nuanced to fall for the Bush fairytales lock stock and barrel. The problem has been all along that the press has been negligent in reporting anything close to the truth. Now that they're forced to, you'll see Americans opinion of Bush sour in a hurry.

2. Mine
I have one friend who voted Bush in 2000, and swears he will not in 2004. He will vote for some of the Democrats running, or the Libertarian candidate, but not Bush. Problem is, he is a registered Texas voter, so he'll be drown out by all the new 18-21 year old Texas Bushbots enetering the electorate.

I have another friend here who did not vote in 2000 (he says he would have voted for Gore) but is not planning to vote for Shrub. Also a Texas voter.

3. Mine...
My father voted for Gore in 2000 but is glad that Bush won (says he would've handled 9/11 terribly). He'll vote Dem if and only if the Democrat shows "leadership" like Clinton and unlike Gore and Lieberman. Trouble is, he's always voted for the winner in his state (California in 2000, New York in all others since he'd reached 18)...

4. It started two weeks ago,
but over the last three or four days, don't been on boards too much, we have noticed that on the AOL boards

The Bush loyalists are becoming a small and verbally abused bunch... hey I admit it, I get my jollies from calling these idiots, Loyalists, Monarchists and friends of Tyranny... and it is scary when you have to explain the insult...

We have noticed a definite change and even the Red States are TURNING hard.

So if the elections are fair, I don't care what Rove does, Junior's in trouble, deep trouble.
