The DSM hearing at all? I can't monitor it as I'm not near a TV... anyone?

2. My wife watches the Nighly News every night...
and reads the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times everyday, and she'd never heard of the DSM until I brought it up over breakfast yesterday.

CNN won't touch it no matter how loud we scream.

4. actually, there is a link on the cnn homepage
to a story on the DSM. Typical pro-administration story, IMO, though.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/06/16/downingst.memo.ap/index.html

There is also a link to the live hearing, though.

5. CNN also did a pretty decent story about DSM
yesterday by Bill Schneider, aired on Inside Politics and Lou Dobbs.

7. They have a link to their live feed of it on the frontpage of their site..
And they have a link to an AP story about DSM also on the frontpage. I don't think they covered it on TV.

On their cable network, they were covering a stupid car chase. Afterall, there is a reason there ratings have gone down 40 percent in the last year. It's crap like this.

8. When the Powers That Be
want to take someone down, here is what happens:

All networks break in to broadcast these types of hearings and so there is no relief for soap opera addicts. That's what happened during Watergate.

You saw North Carolina U.S. Sen. Sam ("I'm jest an ol' country lawyer) Ervin's ugly mug on TV constantly presiding over the investigation. PBS rebroadcast the hearings in their entirety at night for those who were at work during the day.

Yep, looking back on it, there is no doubt that a marching order was given by the intelligence agencies (for whom Bob Woodward has never ceased to work, IMHO) to the major media to take Nixon down even though he had just been reelected in a landslide of historic proportions.

Another difference was that both houses were solidly in control of the Democrats. But they would have been able to go nowhere without the megaphones of the major networks blaring that Nixon had to go 24/7 for more than a year.
