Now I respect Amy Goodman, but...
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 07:34 PM by senseandsensibility
on Democracy Now this morning during her interview with John Conyers and Roy McGovern, she referred to the DSM as the "so-called" Downing street memo.

What's up with that? I thought that was a right wing talking point. I mean, even I know that.:wtf:

2. Did the minutes have "Downing street memo" written across the top?
If not, then the minutes are being referred to as the "Downing street memo" and Amy was just being accurate.

I guarantee Amy had no intention of casting doubt on the authenticity of the minutes.

3. I think it refers
to the title, not the memo itself.

4. It sounds like she meant just what she said
In other words, when the memo was written, it's very doubtful that it was called the Downing Street Memo. It has since become known as the Downing Street Memo, thus, the so-called memo. I didn't hear her program today, so I can't say for sure, but based on what you said, that would be my guess.

6. Minutes,memo, minutes, memo, lets call the whole thing off...
On a recent show she referred to it as the memo but stated that in fact they are minutes.

7. She's acurate with the phrase
Every time I view DN via the web, I see Amy address the same "so called" in front of anything that carries a popular name. These were minutes of a meeting, which quickly became known as the "memo".

Amy's a real pro.

10. It's "so-called" because it doesn't have an official name.
Has nothing to do with it's veracity or lack thereof.

11. I can understand that semantically
of course, but how long can something be so called? I mean, many things have no official name, but they have to be called something. It just sounded odd, but I don't suspect Amy of being a freeptard. LOL.:-) God, I hope I'm not that cynical yet.
