HDTV convergence
For the last decade people have awaited the coming of convergence where a person's monitor and television are the same.

We have reached a point of convergence as some monitors have tv tuners built in. A big application of computers will be to record digital programming.

The Internet will carry more video as it matures and individuals add to what established sources release for distribution. People can record this video while watching television and integrate Internet video in with their regular viewing.

Convergence was big talk for a decade, but now that it is here, it seems to disappeared as a big thing. Does anyone have a link or comment on this subject or want to talk about their personal system that brings them convergence?

Let the thread sinking begin.

2. I am interested in the changes it means for society
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 05:03 PM by firefox
It relates to running the informational blockade and how people develop new pathways for news. It concerns obtaining web content and distributing it. It is a broad question concerning the morphing of the way people distribute information. It relates to the Internet as being the salvation of truth and distributing that truth.

Do you think one day that these words will become voice at DU or video? Do you think there will be a top 100 video links here at DU, that can be used when people have a "Reality Party?"

This is not in the politics forum even though I am looking for things evaluating convergence in respect to a changing political reality.

Edit to add: Convergence is a big a deal as broadband. I would like to know if anyone has attained convergence or has a goal of attaining convergence.

Was anyone ever interested in convergence or is it just me?

3. Most People -- Even On DU -- Don't Really Understand What's In Store...
regarding media convergence.

It's a revolutionary change, equal in significance to the advent of the internet.

It represents our opportunity to overcome the dominance of today's mainstream media.

When this thread sinks, I suggest you post it again to the media forum. It will stay on the front page there for a few days, and attract the attention of DU'ers interested in media convergence.

Cheers
