Dem Party of Wisconsin Resolves to Impeach Bush, Cheney, etal
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 11:56 AM by BR_Parkway
Saturday afternoon during their annual State Convention at the Park Plaza in downtown Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin adopted the following resolution:

CALLING ON THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO INITIATE IMPEACHMENT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST PRESIDENT BUSH, VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY AND DEFENSE SECRETARY RUMSFELD FOR HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS

WHEREAS, the Downing Street Memo shows that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld began planning and executing the war on Iraq before seeking Congressional and UN approval;

WHEREAS, UN weapons inspectors showed prior to the invasion that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, there is further mounting evidence that the Administration lied or misled about "mushroom clouds," "connections to 9/11," and "war as a last resort" as they sought UN, Congressional, and public approvals;

THEREFORE, RESOLVED, the DPW asks Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld.

And, most importantly, they referenced the Downing Street memo (not "minutes", doh!) in the first bullet. So any media coverage would almost have to mention it. This was a smart move.

It is believed that Wisconsin is the first state Democratic Party to have passed a resolution calling for the impeachment of President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld. They hope that others will do the same.

2. This is interesting - someone brought up the right of states
in the event that the Federal Govt. does not clean up its own mess, individual states can band together to get it done. If only this would happen!!!

57. One way is to call or a Constitutional Convention...
Not surewhat the quorum is for that, 2/3? I hope it doesn't go there with the Talibornagain on the prowl.

Another way is to recall representation, if the State's constitution has a method, or rather lack of a proscription.

I'm not a Lawyer, and don't play one on TV and I pay too much for car insurance.

7. Priority #1...Defeat Sensenbrenner!!!
Two birds with one stone.

First...a first class asshat. Longtime pain in our ass and a corporate hack who needs to get a good dose of electoral reality.

Second...he's the head of the Judiciary Committee. He's the one who those who dream of impeachment need to start with. Remove him, install a Democratic majority in the House and John Conyers takes that seat. Then, let the fun really begin.

21. Now Too See That In The Local Papers...
Time for us to stop preaching to our own choir...others have to feel free to speak openly as well. There's a lot of moderates in the suburban areas that need to be connected with who are the keys to removing Sensenbrenner and other Repugnican hacks, but aren't aware of Democratic alternatives or get scared away by strident rhetoric. Find a way to reach out to these people and good things will happen.

37. It's just amazing how "impeachment" has suddenly become
acceptable language. I have a hard time believing that the DSM were the thing that did it, seeing as the story came out over a month ago.

What tipped the balance on this? Bush's tanking poll numbers?

83. tipping point
I think it just reached a tipping point. The DSM gives unimpeachable (ha ha) documentation of what we've known for a while. The knee-jerk resistance to another impeachment has eroded. The resolution could not have passed the DPW any earlier as this last weekend was the convention. I don't know if any other states tried this or not.

There are more Americans, dem, repub, or in-between who are SO FED UP with Bush, who know their loyalty to Bush as a fellow Republican has been greatly betrayed.
THIS is the perfect time to move into states and follow WIsconsin. Momentum cannot be slowed, Bush, Cheney and the Rove machine will have NO voice when the America they have silenced for so long, begins to steamroll over D.C.

Is this the equivilent of the American Revolution ala 2005.

Time to return this American Government to its rightful owners.
Take back our America.
Impeach Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, and all others who let the USA live with THEIR BIG LIE.

outraged and give the pukes loads of free space to grumble about it.

But what will matter more is that we took a stand, we brought it to the floor of the convention and hopefully it will bring more and more Dems into the party and encourage them to stand up too. Just like you see here at DU.

newspaper article calling for impeachment, posted here on June 3. Great article, read it and it will cheer you:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3778253
Thread title: Fantastic Op-Ed from the Bangor Daily News "IMPEACH!"

Excerpt:

(snip)

"It was all a lie. Many of us have said for a long time it was a lie. But here it is in black and white: Lies from a president who has taken a sacred trust to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

So, what does it mean? It means that our president and all of his administration are war criminals. It's as simple as that. They lied to the American people, have killed and injured and traumatized thousands of American men and women doing their patriotic duty, killed at least 100,000 Iraqi civilians, destroyed Iraq's infrastructure and poisoned its environment, squandered billions and billions of our tax dollars, made a mockery of American integrity in the world, changed the course of history, tortured Iraqi prisoners, and bound us intractably to an insane situation that they have no idea how to fix because they had no plan, but greed and empire, in the first place.

What does it mean? It means that everyone in this administration should be impeached. It means that our Maine Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and our Congressmen Tom Allen and Mike Michaud should call for immediate impeachment. They were lied to by their president, voted for war, and are thus complicit in the multiply betrayals of the American people unless they stand up now for the truth.

Richard Nixon was impeached for a cover-up of a two-bit break-in. William Cohen, a young Maine Republican, played an important role for the prosecution in those proceedings. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying about sex with an intern. Now we have the irrefutable evidence that George W. Bush lied about the reasons for taking the United States to war. The intelligence wasn't flawed. The weapons weren't hidden. Our elected leaders were lying. "

69. This wasn't the first time Wisconsin Dems considered an impeachment res
The past couple of years impeachment resolutions have been brought to the floor in district conventions and at the state, but they were defeated.

This year, it was awesome to see. This resolution had overwhelming support. As the vote took place near the end of the convention on Saturday, some of us even stayed so we could vote for it. I was a delegate again this year and I can tell you it won by at least a 2/3 margin voice vote. We even voted to end debate early so we could do it.

I hope, like many of you, that this is something that sweeps the country as state conventions convene over the summer and into next year. I would love to start the midterm elections with the Dems in at least have of the states supporting a similar resolution.

I was just wondering how stupid that sounded. Yup, pretty stupid!

you've said it all."
